I was fortunate enough Sunday evening (11/2/14) to harvest my best buck yet.
Had smaller bucks running does Sunday morning but no shot opertunities. Climbed down about 11:30 to head home for lunch and when I returned the land owners had told me they had gone back to the woods on their john deer gator and saw "a good buck" somewhat close to the stand I hunted in the morning. I figured they had chased everything out of the woods but I was here may as well hunt so I headed to the stand I hunted in the morning around 2:30.
Hadn't seen anything moving and was getting bored when at a little after 5 o'clock I heard a twig snap near a creek crossing in front of me 45 yards or so in front of me. After a minute of looking for the source of the noise I could make out some deer legs. Shortly after that the deer started towards my location and soon noticed it was a good buck but headed straight to me I didn't know just how good. At about 30 yards out he started angling down a trail that would lead him a touch over 20 yards from me. Once he turned I could tell I was going to shoot if given the opertunity. He cleared some branched and broadside I drew back picked my spot and the arrow was on its way.
When I release he hit the deck and went to take off so the arrow hit high and back a bit and he bolted off but stopped about 40-50yards away. He looked around as if baffled by what just happened and I noticed my arrow sticking up out of his back which reassured me it was a poor hit and most likely a long night of tracking ahead. Much to my surprise after 20 or so seconds of standing there he fell right over. I had hit a main artery just below the spine and he had bled out.
I was using a 3 piece takedown longbow I built. 64" 50@28" shooting 2 fletched gt tipped with tree sharks weighing in at 600 grains.
He ended up being a main frame 10 with a 8.5" 3rd main beam

Great Buck, Well done.
Congrats. That's great. Super nice buck. God bless.
Just went and picked up the mount last night. Did some rearranging and found some room for him. I like the way the mount came out and I always have the option to build a stand and make it a pedestal mount.
