So my brother and I bought a camper in a campground on a lake here in Indiana. It borders some public land and we have been learning it all year. He has really spent the time on it and dialed in his stand location. Saturday night we hunted together and he says he has the mythical "perfect tree".
I couldn't hunt Sunday morning so was reading the paper and at 8:06 my phone starts going off. I knew it was him so rushed to get to it. I missed him but called right back and he says he has a doe down in sight and a buck dead a ways off. He was sure he heard a crash and it was a big buck, a 10 pointer.
I told him congrats and was wishing I was there. It's about an hour drive and I was supposed to go to church. But I came to my senses and told him I'd be down to help drag. I altered my church plans but had to be back by 2 for a choir concert for my daughter.
I get down there and he says he can't find the 10 pointer. But he did find the 11 pointer he killed :)
After another friend joined us, we went to the deer and found this brute.

He is a great 3 year old basic 10 with a kicker. We dressed him and went to get the doe.

Here's the pair after dragging them close to the road.

Mike used the 60's era Ben Pearson takedown I got off Craigslist a couple years ago and refinished for him. The bow is 48# at 28" but Mike draws closer to 30". The buck was hit right through the middle of the heart. The doe flinched at the shot but he caught her in the femoral artery. After a couple hours of processing, we got the meat in the coolers and iced down ready for wrapping in the next couple days. What a great day!

What a nice hunt! Great deer. I love reading about Ben Pearson bows. My first was a BP Cougar in the late 60's.
I've always wanted to tag two on a hunt. Had a chance a couple of years ago. Saw doe #1 drop at 55 yards. Then a 2nd came to 16 yards. I couldn't shoot it would have burned the "either sex" tag on my permit. Now that law is changed and I could have done it and bought a bonus tag to continue buck hunting.
Oh well, one deer was enough for my grown son to drag anyway!
