Title: Please help with new ideas for stand placements
Post by: Caleb the bow breaker on October 30, 2014, 12:34:00 PM
Guys,

Below is an aerial of a place I hunt and I guess I have sort of fallen into a rut and am looking for fresh ideas.  The cover is pretty thick and really there aren't a ton of food sources.  So the old sit between their beds and food doesn't seem to work to well.  Anyway, if you are willing, look at the aerial and let me know what you think are likely deer travel routes.

Almost dead center you have sort of a pinch point in that clearing . It seems to be closer and easier for the deer to cross over from woodline to woodline . Look for rubs on both sides of field where bucks could be staging or hanging up before crossing . Another spot that stands out to me would be where the treeline brakes up around that dirt looking trail shaped like a 3 in upper NE corner , deer traveling along that woodline will be crossing where they feel safe . It's hard to tell without elavations but try to find a pinchpoint in their travel patterns , hope this helps , Fred

I'm with GreyFox54 on the pinchpoint in the middle.
Also looking at the elongated field at the SouthEast corner of the map. Maybe set up between that field and the cut just north of it.
Good luck

I love inside corners...looking towards the bottom of the property their appears to be a little dogleg to the left of the "runway" in the middle. Lower third of the photo. Would be a great NW wind spot.

I agree the first thing I notied was that dogleg or finger. One thing I have noticed over the years is bucks tend to approach open areas from most secluded cover and or down wind side. I look for bottlenecks, bar ways, fencelines, against waterways, saddles and terrain that funnels deer through a tight tollerance to give shot opportunities.
