I promise not to drag this out... enough of that this morning!

Sort of looked like a monkey in the tree stand this morning. I took the advice of others on here and bought some Halloween makeup last night. At 97 cents a tube it's hard to beat.
Anyway... I had seen a nice buck from this stand last Thursday morning and hadn't gotten a chance to hunt it since... until today.
At 8:30 am a real nice buck came by. I grunted him in toward me three different times, but he just wouldn't commit to coming close enough.
At 9:30 I was wondering what was going on... only the one buck and no does so far. Last Thursday it was like being in a zoo... deer all around me all morning.
I was hunting over a few persimmon trees in a "saddle" that was well used. Where I live the hunting is pretty simple... in the mornings you get between the bedding areas up in the hollows and the fields in the bottoms.
At 9:40am I looked to my left and there he was... not the big one, but a nice young buck. It had rained during the night and I didn't hear him come in at all.
I managed to get into position to shoot as he stood 10 yards away facing me but intently looking up the ridge where the bigger buck had went earlier.
I had to lean toward him, uphill, in order to get my lower bow limb to clear the climbing stand I was in.
Once I got it clear of the stand I picked a spot as he turned slightly to my right. It was a relatively steep angle, but I was sure I could put one through the vitals... I released and watched as the arrow hit where I was looking.
I watched him bolt around me, running a semi-circle down the bank and toward a nasty, brush choked ravine below me.
I went back to the house and charged my camera battery for an hour before going back up and taking up the trail.
The first blood I found was about 25 yards from where I had shot him. It wasn't much... and had me a little concerned. I knew the arrow did not pass completely through, but I prayed that it had punched through so that I would have a good trail to follow.
Here is the first blood... a couple of small spots.

And now, the rest of the story........
:coffee:

10 yards later I found this. His trail was easy to follow as he was going down a very steep embankment. Now the blood trail picked up to the point that a blind man could follow it.
That is about the time that I stopped to consider how the trailing that follows the shot really adds a lot to the hunt... almost as great as the shot itself.
Another 10 or so yards and I found the feathered end of my arrow as seen above... and a little further the "working end". It was suspended in the brush just as it looks here.

Now I KNEW I had two holes!

Finally... the end of the trail.

No disappointment here about the broken arrow. This is the second deer this year for the arrow and broadhead. The broadhead is a MA-II.
I would be very happy to take only two deer with each arrow/BH... 24 to the dozen... Oh yeah!
Well... turkey season is in this week, so I'm off to the blind.
Good hunting all!
Very nice! Way to go!

Darren... I'm so ugly that I used to hunt without a weapon. The deer would look up, see my ugly face and fall over dead of heart failure. As I got older, I had to start covering my face some because I began to mangle the meat too bad.
The camo on the limbs are just limb covers sold by 3 Rivers. I'll take them off for 3D and off season. They do offer a little protection and I like the pin oak camo.
Nice Buck!!!
Nice Buck!!! Looks like a great shot!
