Hey folks, I see a mid 70's Ben Pearson take down recurve on craigslist, silencer 7158 TD..... Anyone have any thoughts or opinions about this model or the pearsons from that period? Asking price is $295 for the bow and a bunch of arrows, gear etc. any info would be appreciated.
try posting this on the Trad History/Collecting forum here on TG. More of the guys who would know might see it. I don't know enough about Ben Pearsons to be of any help to you. Good luck!
Pearsons are great bows, but that price is at the upper limits for that bow. As much as I like Pearsons I would think twice before I would pay that much for that model.
I have several Pearsons. Most are lower poundage now lent out to my 4H students. Fine bows, but none of mine cost more than $50, altho none of mine are take downs.
I don't know about take downs, but my first bow was/is a 1 piece Pearson recurve from the 70's. They seem to have a reputation for being solid performers, and my little bow was no exception. They don't have the glamor of Bear and some of the other bows around but they hold their own. $295.00 is higher than I would have expected to see.
Take downs appeal to some and currently get a premium (I prefer one piece bows). One sold on ***** for $250 recently.
The key is is it the bow you want in the weight you want and in good condition?
May be a poor investment at that price if you plan on reselling but on the other hand may be a great bow you'll be happy with if you keep it.
It's a 45# @28" which is what I'm looking f
Draw and all is in my wheelhouse, not sure about takedowns though.......I wouldn't pay $295, I think the seller thinks all the other stuff is worth something. For $200 I may take a peek though.
The Ben Pearson takedown system is very good, just put a little anti-sieze on the screw. If you can get it for the $200 it would be well worth it. The Silencer is a solid performer, not real quick but a good stable shooter.
