Title: Thoughts on my next arrow build... Looking for advice.
Post by: rwbowman on October 28, 2014, 01:52:00 PM
I have a John Holzrichter Custom longbow, 60", 57# at 28", that I draw to 26 1/2-27". I'm wanting to build some heavy arrows to aid in quieting this bow down a bit more and would like to build on a Douglas Fir shaft. I'm thinking about a 60-65 spine, cut somewhere around 28-30", with 200 grain Grizzly Instinct heads. This should put me somewhere in the ballpark of 600 grains if I'm correct.

My current setup with this bow is a 28"BOP 50-55 cedar shaft with 145 grain points, weighing in around 520 grains. They fly well out of the bow and all, I just think a heavier arrow will quiet the bow down a bit more, shooting three under.

My question is do you guys think this spine is too stiff or weak to start with, or should it be just about right?

Thanks!

I assume you have a high performance string on the bow, and that it's cut near center.  If so, 60-65# should work just fine, probably cut closer to 28 inches BOP than 30 inches.

Yes, Orion, I forgot to add that I make a 12 strand, 14 in the loops, D97 Flemish string for this bow. Thanks!
