Looking for a couple of makers of a short take down recurve. I am looking for something in the 54 to 56 inch range. I do not want to go over 56 if at all possible. Here is the catch though, My draw is 28.5. Is there something out there that would accomadate this without horrible stacking and major finger pinch?
I would like a short bow for treestand and ground blind hunting.
-
The Hunter 56 by Checkmate is worthy of note. I took this catch of gar with one and I draw close to 30". Not all that bad to shoot at such a long draw... yours would be a piece of cake.

Check them out at recurves.com

hey thanks Charlie, I have a 60 inch falcon deluxe that is a pretty sweet shooter. Just not crazy about the grip. You have any close up pics of the handle I could see?
-
Great Plains makes a T/D recurve called the SR Swift that is designed for what you're looking for.....Mike
-
Jesse... couldn't find a picture that shows any better detail of the handle. I found it to be pretty comfortable, though.
-
Mike I checked them out looked good. Thanks !
Thanks again Charlie. I shot Chad an email to see if I could get some pics from him.
Anyone have any experience with Cascade Bows or Fedora's short takedown recurve?
-
I used a 52" Cascade Golden Hawk Magnum this past hunting season for ground hunting and loved it. It would be a great treestand bow as well.
They are not speed burners, but very stable for their length.
-
Look into the Kwyk Styk from Jack Kempf in Alberta.Mine was made 60@27,I shoot it a bit over 28, and can drew it smoothly to 30 inches.
Fast,super smooth,bomb proof(don't ask),and most importantly...an extremely easy bow to shoot!!!
-
I am shooting the new recurve limbs from Bob Morrison @ 54" long. I do have a short draw @ 26" but you will not find a finer piece of bow art in my book. Get Bob to build you a 56" bow and I am sure it would work for you just fine.

Jesse: I 2nd The kwyk styk for a 56" Bow. Draws smooth to a t least 30".
-
Scott Mitchell at Timberhawk bows makes a 56" take down. vary nice well made bows. www.kivanet/~thawk (http://www.kivanet/~thawk) I love my 58" Talon Permier.
-
RER has a new 54"
ARROYRO that is smooth all the way I am told. Has those awsome static tips. www.riversedgerecurves.com (http://www.riversedgerecurves.com) <><

TimberGhost by Kent Roberts is a great bet. Sackett draws his 54"er to 30". I have the 54 and 56 recurve limbs, and the new longbow limbs in 58". This thing is a real shooter.

I when I looked at short TD recurves, I decided on a Chek Mate Hunter 56. I ordered mine through G&M Archery, and should have it in a couple months. It will be Zebrawood & Walnut riser with Walnut limbs. I'm having this bow made with waterhole blind hunting out in the Badlands very much in mind.
Based on my satisfaction with my 58" Hunter II and 60" Hunter I, I expect it to be a great bow...

Shieldcut,
Check out Neil's take down Light Speed recurve at Bear's Paw Bows. bpbows.com
-
can anyone post a couple of pics of the Kwyk Stik? Do they have a website I could check out.
How long are the risers on all these different short takedown recurves?
-
I 3rd. the Kwyk Styk. I have 2 56"ers and they are both very smooth and I draw 28.5"s and I know Guru(Curt)draws 29"s with his with no pinch or stacking. I have the static tips on both of mine and they open up like butter. Shawn

Shield Cut...I sent you a PM with photos...

I should also add that Jack makes a sweet shooting 52" Stealth T/D. I personally shoot the 60" which is smooth and fast.
The 52" would make a great bow for turkey hunting from a blind(Double Bull etc...), ground hunting, still hunting or tree stand hunting. As with all 48-52" bows, finger pinch can be a problem with longer draws. I have 2 56" bows and they are smooth to 29".
-
I shoot a Morrison Shawnee with Arapaho Limbs 56" bow and it draws smoothly to my 29". Quick, quick, quick! Perfect for treestands and blinds.

Here is a link to jacks Page.
His Kwyk Styk and stealth are both good shooters. Actualy all of his bows are good shooters. I have a review on the kwyk Styk in my trad reviews at www.peteward.com (http://www.peteward.com)

Shieldcut, Here are a couple of shots of my ChekMate Hunter 56". I like the bow - it's my primary bow right now - but note that the window is short. I shoot it 3 under with no problem but with my face and anchor, I seem to lose sight picture if I shoot it split finger. May be something you want to try before you buy. Fedora makes me down to 52.

Little Suckling Recurves have an ad in TBM. I don't own one yet but I shot a guy's at Cloverdale and it handle my nearly 30" draw no problem. Smooth as silk all the way back. It shot where I looked and was quiet and fast. I think the bow was 54" I'm looking into one for shooting out of tent blinds like Easton's and Double Bulls as my 60" recurve is too long geven my height even sitting(taller from the waist up than down.)
-
The riser on my 56" Kwyk Styk is 13.5".....great little bows!
-
Hey, one them Kwyk Styks is mine! Great bows, I don't think you could go wrong if you picked one, just don't wait as long as I did. While it is a personal decision, Shawn, Joe and Curt are not steering you wrong.

I was in much the same boat at one time. I have a 30" draw and was torn between the Kwyk Styk and the Timberghost.
I got the opportunity to shoot a Timberghost. It was 54" takedown. I was very impressed. It was fast, quiet, stable, dead in the hand, and beautiful. I ordered one the next day.
I handled a used 56" Kempf Kwyk Styk at Denton Hill, I did't like the grip. (although if you order you could probably request the grip you want). It was a nice bow, but I felt the Timberghost was much nicer and was cheaper. I was glad that I ordered the Timberghost.
But, Well long story short, I canceled the Timberghost after Denton Hill since the bowyer couldn't get it to me before hunting season and bought a 60" Ancient Spirits Thunderhawk. Now that bow is a screamer and quiet. I love it. I still think that some day I may make another order for a Timberghost.
The bowyer for Ridgerunner bows who makes the Timberghost is a really good guy. He goes by AR RidgeRunner on this site.

This is the strung TimberGhost, 54" recurve limbs.
This is the medium grip on the longest of his risers.
-
Beachbowhunter,
Love the looks of that bow and the woods. What woods are those and what do one of those bows run?
Just awesome.
Eric

This is natural bocote and birdseye maple with black and red micarta. Kept the woods natural, no stain. I can't remember what the usual price was as I bought extra limbs. Best contact Kent for current pricing

Dan Toelke makes take-down recurves in lengths from 52" to ? Call him to see what length fits your draw.
-
I was just at the TRADITIONAL EXPO and Bob Lee had them there 52-56" you might want to give him a try. There not on his web sight, he just came out with them. OOPS THEY are't take down!
-
Norbert, Is Kent back building bows again? I contacted him last year and he had stopped for awhile.
-
Hey Norbert, What was the wait like on your TimberGhost?? That is a sweet looking little booger. I have been trying to find a truly nice shooting short takedown recurve for a while but, most of the bows I have tried either don't shoot so good, have alot of finger pinch or are just plain loud as heck!LOL
-
The wait was a few months, around 9 I think. Can't really remember. You'll need to contact Kent for the scoop. Going hog hunting in March with the longbow limb setup. Can't wait!
-
shield cut, theres a 56" SAIII (Widow) in the classified right now.
