Hunted the last 2 days on Black water refuge and private land on Maryland's eastern shore. Mornings were slow but last evening was off the hook. Passed on a spike and a cow but called this guy over and made a great 23 yards shot. My buddy shot at almost the same time. I tried to call him then put my bino,s on him about 125 yards away and he was giving me a thumbs up.
For those that don't know Sika are like miniature elk that has run free for almost 100 years. They are from some Japanese island and they love living in the swamps and marsh of southern Dorchester co.
I was shooting a Centaur and my buddy an original Schafer.

 What is the bag limit/tag info on them?
Wow that is really something! Congratulations!
Nice stag Terry.
TJ the limit is 2 cows and 1 bull but Black water refuge has it's on limit and it is the same.
Awesome. Congrats!
Good job !!!
Congratulations on a nice Hind and Stag!
T.j. if you check out or search Maryland deer season bag limit it will show you that now the bag limit is 3 and only one can be antlered BUT that's per season..You can use your bow during the other two seasons but must wear hunter orange and pay for the stamp...When you purchase your license you will get to hunt with the gun but must buy a seperate archery and a seperate muzzle load stamp..If you do a search and can hook up on some private land you'll love it ...Blackwater has lots of public but best to get hold of Steve Kendrot here..He is like "Mick Dodge" and lives with the Sika's... :biglaugh:
Awesome job terry. I was there all day Monday never saw a sika. My friend killed a hind. Heard a few bugling. I'm heading back down next time bow opens on the refuge since I'm off
Congrats guys! Awesome!
Congrats to the both of you!!
Congrats! How's the meat ? Very cool animal!
Very nice!! The last time I hunted Black Water I about got mauled by skeeters. I was down early a few years back and would love to try to get down during the rut.
that is cool!
VERY COOL!!! My wife has family in that neck of the woods....the wheels are turning. I believe a trip to see granny may be in order.
Jake
Great job...congrats to the both of u!!
The meat is just like elk. I know people who would trade 3 whitetails for 1 little Sika. :bigsmyl:
To me the meat is a little darker, finer textured and tenderer than whitetail.
Good job.sounds like a cool hunt.
Awesome hunt, congrats on the nice sika's.
Congrats!!
  Excellent job both of ya!!
This area is salt marsh and it's salty. I shot the stag with an A Boyer broad head. It was only in the ground or marsh with water covering it a few inches 10 or 15 minutes. I wiped it off good and within 2 hours washed it and oiled it and this is what it looks like.

Here's a pic of a small hind that got a pass. Pretty little things.

Nice job! I was down there a couple days last week. Had 2 hinds within 20 yards but no shots. Stags were definitely starting to get restless.
Awesome... Congrats!!!
Thats awesome. Those marsh Rats can be tough to catch up with.
I have to get down there soon!!
Thanks guys, I really want to do this hunt.

I leave for Assateague Island in less than 48 hr to chase them on the Virginia side at Chincoteague NWR.
Nice stag Terry. I did my first Sika hunt last week. Only blood I drew was on my index finger when it got in the way of a VPA.
Congratulations
Outstanding job guys!!! We've hunted them on Chincoteague in the past. IMHO, they're some of the finest tasting Venison of all the species.
Well Done Fella's!!!
