Title: Arrows for Kids
Post by: snowplow on October 13, 2014, 06:07:00 PM
Hey guys, I was going to make a few arrows for my sons bow (he's 4) out of some 1/4" hardwood dowels. Does anyone have a cheap and generic recipe for stain/crown dip?

For instance I was thinking of just (crown) dipping them in some white primer I had around and maybe again in a color. Then dipping the rest of the shaft in some kind of hardware store stain.

Any of you guys do this? Any recommendations on stain etc?

Will typical fletch glue work on reg brush or spray paint?   :archer:

I use spray Paint. Tape off the shaft where you want the crest to end and go to town. Finish with spray clear coat poly.  They will get lost and broken quickly any how.

This is just wood stain

I use the water based minwax stain in a tube for the stain. It dries quickly and I seal it with water based polycrylic. I also use the spray paint for the crown dip and a combination of sharpies and model paints for the cresting. 3 Rivers sells some 1/4 in points the fit over the end of the shaft with no tapering.

I made some for my three year old recently. No cresting just stain and spray can clear coat with barred feathers. I like the rustoleum matte finish 2x coverage best. He loves them and they fly great. I'm fletching him eight cane arrows right now too. He wanted some just like dads.lol Also i used duco cement for fletching.
