Who is game this year? As long as I don't fall in Ice this year.
Unfortunately this will be my last year to host it. In March I will find myself in Georgia. So my next bunny stomp after this on might be in SC or GA.
I bet we will have a blast.
I'm game for another run at em Kelly. Rabbit numbers are up around here this year. How they looking out there?
bretto
I'm in, sorry to hear its the last one. But I'll be there for sure this year as the elbow is up and working again.
Sign me up Kelly.
I'd love to come, as long as I'm not working.
Jon
I see them around here. I bet where we tend to go they are there.
Always a great time. Count me in.
Guys don't be alarmed if Paul is at half draw walking around. They tend to come out from under his feet in places where there is no sign of them. :biglaugh:
Hope all of you guys have a great deer season.
I'll be there this year! I'm a little farther away but I'll make it. I'm coming from Colby, so I can give a ride to somebody on the way.
What are you doing way out that way Jon.
Now Caleb, that's just mean. :(
;) :D
Besides. I'm not always at half draw, I just never get further than Half Draw... :p
I'll come for sure!!!!!!
Kelly- I'm a Trooper now for the Highway Patrol, and they stationed me in Colby.
Looking forward to attending this year! :campfire:
That's great Jon. If we get stopped coming in from the East we can name drop You. LOL
Congrats on the new job.

Speak for yourself Brett. My car ain't that fast... ;)
And added congratulations on the new job Jon.
Any idea when yet?
When and where???
Once y'all get that nailed down I might be able to come play too.
How is the Saturday the 31st for everyone?
I'll put it on my calendar. 0800 your place? I will bring something. Not sure what yet but something edible.
Ok that sounds great my place at 0800. I will think of something for lunch maybe chilly or roast.
I'll mark the calendar and ask my wife to bake one of her buttermilk pies.
If anyone needs my address shot me a PM and I will get you my info.
I'll see if I can get a couple of buddies to come up with me, but I don't want to miss for the third time this year. It should be a good year for it- seems I've been seeing more rabbits this year than the last two or three years.
Don't matter how many we see Rory darn little things got force fields. That's the only reason I can see for me missing so many. :bigsmyl:
One had a cloaking device last year...
I'm in.
Jon
If one could do me a favor has a right handed bow and arrows That a tall lanky (6'1") 15 yr old could shoot. I have a foster kid and he would love too go with us. I only have one that is even close but I don't have any arrow for a 45lb bow. He has been shooting it with all my mismatched old carbons.
SO a loner bow and arrows for him for the hunt if someone could bring it along.
Ok lets get a count going of who thinks they might make it.
Goose where are you at?
I have a couple bows that I can bring Kelly along with some longer arrows too.
Kelly I have some bows and lots of arrows. I'll help outfit him. I've got a glove or tab he can also use.
I'll just bring a bunch of my stuff.
What's his draw length? I always have shafts for forty to forty-five so if he likes that bow we can match him up.
I plan on being there unless the new grandson comes early. He's due Feb. 9th.
bretto
thanks gents. On the gear. I will get a draw length off him later today. I would say 27 or so at a guess and the bow is a bit heavy for him yet to shoot much. He is pulling it just to 45 or 50lb or so. I guess once I get his draw I will know what he is pulling. He can draw and shoot it fine for a bit but not shooting them much means he has to build up to it a bit. He was shooting it about every other day until this weather set in.
I have a longbow that's about 40# and a nice little Howatt Stick that's 30# so I'll bring em both.
Well I was out near the area we go and bunny tracks were thick. So I have an area just south of where we go so we will go to the stomping grounds and then to the south. I should be able to be out most of the day.
Agenda:
Receive folks/BS
Eat/BS
Hunt/BS
Eat/BS
Hunt/BS
BS and send yall home.
How does that sound.
Sounds good but with Joe and me both there I think you've underestimated the amount of "BS"...
;) :D
Well unfortunately I have to work that weekend so I won't make it. I would take vacation but I'm leaving the 18-23 for a hog/axis hunt in TX. Good luck guys and I'll be looking forward to the stories. :campfire:
Sorry to hear Jon.
Man Paul that's true need to at least double the BS time.
I'm hoping to bring CJ along so we can BS while he walks out those brush piles for us... ;)
:)
Great Idea My sons have learned they all said they were busy that weekend.
Well I have a young one at 15 to be snoopy for us. :)
Looks good for the huckabuck to be coming with me so our merry band of bunny stompers is growing.
The more the merrier... Just made up a half dozen nutters to bring along. It's kinda windy but think I'll go test them out back. :)
I just tested my foster son's draw and it is 27"
I hope we get a full house I wonder if I go over on PA and post this if we get more. I mean with 50 or 60 of us one rabbit has to be gotten.
^^^
With 50 or 60 we'd outnumber the rabbits...
10 days to go bump...
Wish we'd get a little snow.
Yeah but the way snow last here we don't want it to fall until the 30th at midnight else it will all be gone by the time we start hunting.
Well I went out with some folks from work and hunted the fort for some birds with not trad stuff but scatter stuff. Bumped some rabbits so they are around and We were hunting grassy stuff not a lot of bunny stuff. I am in trouble I think. I knock the hair off ones tail but no other sign.
But it should be fun fun fun. I know south of where we go they had standing corn in rows.
Those wascally wabbits... :)
Man now we won't know weather they're moonin us or it just one Kelly shot the hair off of.

:D
See ya'll next weekend...
Man Yall ready to go. I have some soldiers coming up. To give it a try and my son and foster son so Heck I should have 4 or 5 with me.
Looks like we'll have some real bunny huntin' weather on Saturday. :)
90% chance of precipitation (read that freezing rain) with temps in the high 30's we'll have to stand on top of the rabbit and club him with the bow to get him to move. But my chili (nice and warm) should go well at lunch.
I am ready working on a few bunny thumpers.
So besides lablover and Paul who is in now that the time is almost here.
It's me and a guest Kelly. I think Joe's bringing his buddy Huckabuck too so that's 4...
Been working on some thumpers tonight as well. I'll be there.
Jon
Yep. I'll be there. I use screw on bunny missers. Dang auto correct. "bunny thumpers". Look forward to it.
I'm sure I'll be doing more missing than thumping. :p
Jon
I'm coming not sure about huckabuck, but me and the chili will be there.
Looks like my Man card got yanked this time guys. Got to do some work at the daughters house before the baby gets here next week.
Everyone have fun and take lots of pictures. Be careful traveling.

Whereabouts in Kansas is this bunny hunt taking place? If its on the western end of the state I may be able to make a trip out that way.
It's being held in Riley, KS, which is in the NE part of the state.
Jon
Well another exciting bunny stomp was held today and despite the non stop rain, hovering above freezing temps and the ever present Kansas wind a great time was had by all. Thanks Kelly for hosting another great year. We'll miss you next year but will be looking forward to stories of the Georgia bunny trek.
Well as Lablover stated it was another fun year. We seen bunnies and heck even one was shot at. A nice shed was found. Heck a covey of Bob white were flushed.
The rain that turned to snow was heavy and wet. It did not dampen the or weigh down the sprits of the old pros only the young buck.
The breakfast was awesome breakfast burritos and egg back. The lunch was just as good if not better chili, frog eyes pasta salad followed by butter milk pie and monster cookie. Washed down with coffee, sweet tea or water. MMMMM MMMMMM.
I always have a blast with fellow hunters and the fellowship it brings.
Here is a pic after the hunt 2 left before it was taken.

Yep, great food, great company and a fun time in "pursuit" of the elusive Kansas bunnies. The weather is always the wild card and today was pretty wild...
Thanks again to Kelly for hosting it and I hope everyone made it home safe.
