Title: Does this happen to anyone else?
Post by: YORNOC on October 12, 2014, 07:38:00 AM
EVERY year, without fail I get busiest at work when the things I love to do most are coming.
As usual, my season is starting October 20th, and I'm now working 6 days a week again, and I go in when its dark and come home when its dark. I have to practice by spot light. Very little time to scout.
Im a pm for a large electrical co.  so when I take time off, it hurts me more than anyone.
Once again, the season is here and I want to take a week off. Not going to happen. A day here and a day there AGAIN.   :banghead:
I know things could be a lot worse, I just need to vent.
No one around here wants to hear me whine, I can't understand it?
I feel better, thanks.

I know the feeling. Working 70 plus hours a week and trying to get ready for winter getting  firewood  up ,all the outside painting , storm windows up,and the list goes on and on.

I'm in the same boat, ever since I was promoted 2 years ago, my hunting time has dropped off considerably. To the point I am questioning the purpose of going hunting. I certainly don't have time to scout so any chance I get is like a roll of the dice, usually in the deer favor.

Just a thought, but maybe work all the OT you can and head south for a week or so when the work slows down.  Should help take out some stress.

Happening to me right now, and if the next several weeks had 48 hour days, it STILL wouldn't be enough.

Before retirement, I had a lot of these same problems. However, making a living is paramount, so for now, you'll just have to accept it. However, it makes those precious few hunting opportunities especially nice. Hang tough, and one day things will improve. Good luck.

I am semi-retired but even when I was fully retired stuff comes up.  I am married to a wonderful lady who gets that I need to be out in the woods in the fall/winter, but still there are responsibilities.  I don't see it ever changing.  I am just thankful for the time I have in the woods.

I had to put my bows away for almost 20 years because of my career. Then I was like you, responsibilities exploded in the fall without much warning. This year is the first year in a very long time that I have been able to schedule hunting time that has not been messed up.

So, I feel for you. And I hope your luck changes and you get to have some good hunts this year.

I hear ya...every fall work picks up considerably. I work for an automotive manufacturing company and when the new models start coming out the work picks up. I'm not complaining...very thankful to have a good job..but man does it interfere with my "ME" time.

Retired now- My philosophy is if it needs doing it can wait.  I get stressed when I can't decide between fishing or hunting.  Worked a long time to get here, boy is it nice.  Hang in there god willing your turn will come.

I guess that's one of the advantages of being a "pee-on", just about anybody that is employed with my Dept. is capable of doing my job. So if I don't make it to work, (as long as we're not short handed causing someone to do a double shift) I'm easily replaced. Lol.

Yep, I'm in a similar line of work and have a longish commute to boot which kills my chances of going after work. And then to top it off when life is not demanding my weekends we get into these weekend rain periods where it rains every freaking weekend FOREVER!!

Johnie Paycheck said it best in 1977.....TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT!!!.......just quite...you were looking for a job when you found that one so when the season is over just look for another one

sounds good anyways....wishing you the best on your season.

I feel your pain. I've worked 7 days a week as a machinist for over 20 years. Luckily my days are not over 9hrs anymore and my boys are grown up so I can find more time to hunt.

your not alone. Without fail every april during the fallow deer rut something will come up to thwart any plans of hunting. The last 4 years have been especially busy both at work and at home and hunting has been forced to ti side lines. Hopefully very soon this will change and i'll be in the bush alot more often.

Same here.

I'm a retired Electrical contractor and everyone in the area knows it.

They all wait till this time of year to ask that work be done.

It never fails.

Mostly friends and old clients so hard to say no.

I shouldn't complain...a lot of guys till out of work.

I swear they all have something against bow hunting.

ONE OF THE FIRST BOSSES I EVER HAD; AS i ASKED FOR A WEEK OFF (AFTER 8 MONTHS) TO GO ELK HUNTING, HE SAID, "YOU NEED TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO WORK, OR GO HUNTING."   AFTER ABOUT THREE SECONDS, i SAID, "WELL, i GUESS THIS IS MY TWO WEEK NOTICE."

THINGS HAVEN'T CHANGED MUCH SINCE THEN...

fyi-I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER MY UPPER/LOWER CASE ON THIS LAPTOP...
