Is 400 gram Ulfrotte wool from Minus 33 the same product as the 400 gram Ulfrotte woll being offered by 3Rivers Archery, just different colors?
Look at smart wool, better stuff - holds up better. Ulfrotte pulls too easy and then the pulls unravel. Smartwool is tighter weave and better product. I have 2 sets of each. Never wear the ulfrotte anymore.
I miss spoke on the Minus 33 wool, apparently it isn't Ulfrotte wool. But my question remains the same, which product is better? Hunt it, is Smart Wool available in this heavy weight? I intend to use this in cold weather stand hunting, no activity.
It might be the same type of material but I don't think those are the same items. The 3Rivers images don't match up with the Minus33 stuff I own at least, so other than the material they're made of, I can't speak to the quality of the 3Rivers items. I do have a few Minus33 pieces, but I only use them for base layers because I find them rather thin and they only come in rather dark colors (suitable for blinds, but not for sitting out in the open).
At those prices, I would also consider First Lite (I have a FL quarter-zip Chama and an 'Expedition' weight Minus33 full-zip -- the FL item is much thicker, warmer, cheaper and 100% Merino wool).
Also, look at Kuiu for lighter weight layers; good prices, excellent quality (only issue here is that their camo pattern items are frequently backordered, though they offer some excellent solid colors for hunting as well).
Edit: Wanted to add that in the past, I've had excellent luck raiding thrift stores for cast off Wool items, especially sweaters, many in colors/patterns perfectly suitable for hunting. Nothing like sitting on stand while toasty warm in a $5 merino wool sweater. :)
I have Ulfrotte' and SmartWool. The SmartWool may be more durable, but I think the Ulfrotte' is warmer. I usually don't even break it out until our late season because it is so warm. I have never had any unraveling issues.

Ulfrotte is just different than Smartwool. It breathes better and is less clammy/feels less sweaty. It is very warm, has better loft than Smartwool. It's like wearing a Smartwool sock on your body. I use both, and in conjunction, depending on the situations. If you are active or plan to sweat, ulfrotte is the ticket vs Smartwool on skin. Sitting I use both if it's cold.

Ulfrotte original is 80% air.The material is knit so that one side is smooth, and the other has terry loops. The lofty terry loops, in combination with the crimp in the wool fibers, creates a knitwear capable of trapping a lot of air. Up to 80% of the material actually consists of air, which means that the material has a excellent capacity to trap body heat. The more air you can keep still around the body, the more heat you can retain. Air does not to any large extent transport heat away from the body, but textiles do. Ullfotte original retains body heat, even when wet.
Dale: I have the ufrotte 400 and like it a lot. I usually wear silk under it. Because of it's construction, it is susceptible to snagging, but since I wear it as a base layer, that's never been a problem.
I also have some 200 Minus 33. Obviously thinner stuff. Also a little more form fitting. I wear it until it starts to get really cold and/or windy, when I switch to the Ufrotte. And when it gets really bitter, I wear them both.

Thanks Jerry. what you're telling me is what I want to know, the Ulfrotte is warmer for tree stand sitting. Do you think the Minus 33 400 series would be as heavy as the Ulfrotte 400?

Haven't seen the Minus 33 in 400, but I think it would be comparable to Ufrotte, in price as well. Both are good products.
I have a couple pairs of Uforotte sock when the temps really drop down there.
