Title: Thoughts on the Huntmore Chair; I'm going to Ground this Year.
Post by: Diamond Paul on October 09, 2014, 11:28:00 AM
Never used or seen one in person.  I'm going to climb down and hunt from the ground this year, and I have severe back problems, so I must have something with a back rest on it.  I have read good reports on this chair, but wondered what other members thought about it, and whether there were other options out there for less money?

love, love, love.

hunted about 50/50 ground/tree last year, and it may be all ground this year.

i hunt out of good sized commercial ground blinds, and i can sit in this chair for hours without getting uncomfortable (2 back surgeries). it's super quiet and well-built.

there have been some similar options produced since this chair got popular, but i don't see how the cheaper ones could even come close. the thing is ruggedly built, out of GOOD materials. that's why it's expensive.

Double Bull makes a good chair with a backrest. Never used the Huntmore, but the DB makes for a comfortable sit, and it is a lot less money.

I have had one for years. Its a love/hate relationship. I don't like carrying it (12#) and I think its a pain to setup and take down. BUT...the thing is sure great to sit in and hunt out of. I am always looking for something as comfortable but lighter and easier to put up and down...still looking..

sorry but the 12# weight is eactly why I opted out.  I just can't see a stool weighing as much as my complete treestand does.  With all the modern technology in aluminum I can't believe someone has not been able to come up with an adjustable and stable swivel stool that weighs less than 5 pounds.  Until they do I will stick with my Waldrops and Hammock seat.

I have found mine to be very un-comfortable.  Maybe my butt is just not shaped for this chair.  As far as I am concerned, I would not spend that kind of money again.  Just my experience.

Wow, twelve pounds?!!!!  Did not know that.  My loc-ons weigh quite a bit less than that.  That's a problem, for sure.  I might have to look into the Double Bull chair.  There is some chair that's always in Trad Bowhunter mag, plastic with a round seat, adjustable legs, etc.  Anyone familiar with that chair?

i guess i'm the exception in the crowd. i don't have to pack in a long ways where i hunt, and i'm not carrying a tree stand if i'm hunting from the ground, so the weight's not really an issue.

i also don't break the thing down before i carry it in. i just fold the legs in, and carry it already set up. not a problem at all. i have the larger size of the two offered, and it's extremely comfortable.

I looked at one several years ago, and at that time, I'm pretty sure that the manufacturer told me that including the carry bag, they weighed 9lbs?

Just went to download a pdf file on it, and it says the chair weighs 10.5 pounds........pretty hefty.

I have a number of seats for ground hunting including the Huntmore and the new one from Millennium, the G100.

Try the Millennium.  More comfortable.  Easier to put together and carry, and weighs about 3 pounds less.  You can order direct from Millennium if you can't find it at your local sporting goods store, and get it delivered for $200.00.

I've got two Huntmores; the 19" and the 16" and I don't think you can beat them. They will last forever, are quiet and comfortable. The money I spent on cheap chairs that broke after a season easily exceeded what I paid for one Huntmore.

Folks complain about their weight and cost all the time but I look at it this way. These same folks don't think twice about dropping 4 bills for a Lone Wolf climbing stand or packing it in somewhere to use. Well, the Huntmore is MY treestand for the ground.

Never tried the Huntmore but X2 on the Millenium G100.  Very comfortable, easy to set-up and silent swivel.  I'm not a small guy so I often look at weight ratings to get an idea how solid something is built and the Millenium G100 supports up to 400 lbs..  I also plan to use mine as my camp chair.

Yes, it does weigh 12#s, but if you want a well built metal chair, it isn't going to be a   featherwietht. I also don't break it down all the way. I really like mine.

Seems like Millenium figured out how to do it for almost 5 pounds less.  I can see even further weight reductions on it.

Actually it is not the price for me - its the weight.  And when you hike in like I do and often move each day you start weighing everything as every ounce on your back counts.  I suppose if I owned my own land and I hunted on flat land I wouldn't mind as much.

I've not had to spend a dime on another piece of junk chair since I bought a HuntMore. That includes the Double Bull Magnum (2) that my teenage son broke. None of those cheapies compare for comfort and none last. The HM is the only chair I can sit ALL day in. It is not that heavy...I pack it all over the country with a recurve size Double Bull.

The HuntMore is one of the few things worth it's price. It will last a lifetime and it works great.

I've probably spent double on all the cheap junk chairs I bought over the years. It took me a LONG time to pony up for the HM and when I did I realized the big mistake I had been making all along. Wish I had bought one sooner.

you know it really is not that hard to do a Google search and check. The small huntmore weighs 10.5# and a large is 12 pounds.

Some obviously like it. ... personally for me, and how I hunt, it's to heavy...period.  it has NOTHING to do with cost or how many seats I do or dont break (I've never broke one yet)..... it weighs too dang much to tote around in the woods.

Sounds like the Millenium is very close to the same price, though.  I will be hunting on private land, no more than a mile walk in, and I will already have the ground blinds built when I go, so I don't need to pack all the other stuff, like netting, saws, etc.

I think the huntmore is a solid chair, I sat in one. The problem is if your huntimg in places with no blind, say a clump of grass or small brush pile, you need to get lower than 16".

I have a thread going on the shappel, 360 a very cheap version of the huntmore, I modifed it to go down to 11" and if you took the feet off even lower in soft terrian.

I pmed talked to Scott at huntmore, he said a guy could cut down the legs on the 16" one.

I hunt public land and ground blinds pop ups just don't work that well, and I'm not leaving my double bull out over night.

The huntmore is built like a tank and would be the last one a guy would buy.

I might get one if I get the nads to modify it.

I own the Huntmore and the Waldrop Pac seat. I use to own a Double Bull, both the small and the larger seat. I'm 6 ft., 250 and find the Huntmore and the Waldrop a hard combination to beat for comfort and mobility. If I'm  going to be very active, looking for a place to set up while hunting, I use the Waldrop. If I am going to an established hunting blind, which for me is a natural ground blind, not a pop-up,  I'll take the Huntmore. They are both great tools and well worth the money when you compare their cost to some of the stands on the market. Its really a personal decision. Have fun, hunt hard and shoot straight.   :campfire:

Also may want to look at the Blind Ambitions chair.

Very sturdy, adjustable, comfy. and it swivels.

I too purchased a Huntmore Chair.  Well made but to me, cumbersome and uncomfortable as any 3 legged stool of that type is, it just don't do good things to my crotch.

This year, I have been using the Blind King swivel chair.  It folds flat, can be adapted as a sort of pack frame and I can sit in the sucker all day long.  It is incredibly comfortable.  On top of all that, It don't make a sound.  I've bought a bunch of different hunting seats, in my opinion nothing else comes close.

"Opinions will vary" and best thing is to decide by going to a show somewhere and really look at it yourself and try the pack and put it on over the shoulder like a back quiver..If you can hike a few miles with lets say 12 pounds and have no issues with it then decide for yourself if it's right for you..
I have had the back surgery and my wife got mine for my birthday about 6/7 years ago and I walk across a cow pasture, down through a brook across a little stream and that is about a mile or so and it does not bother me cause I also carry a haversack and hang it off my left side..
I adjust my seat with a little bit of slack so it isn't tight and this depends on your size..I'm 285# now and it keeps me seated and I will adjust the back leg just a little shorter to lean me back for total comfort,,
It can be set up in about a 3 to 5 minute time frame and best to practice at home and try and beat the clock to see just how fast you can get it together each time with out making any noise with the straps hitting the legs..
Once you get it adjusted in the field relax and enjoy a 4 hour sit ..Best thing I do is go over it in the off time and check the bolts to make sure they are not tight or squeak and adjust.. I use a taste/odorless "O" Ring clear grease on mine and it works pretty good and waterproof..
I like the smoothness of the 360 swivel and Scott has "ALWAYS" answered any questions that I have asked..He is a Man that stands behind his product..

I have used a Huntmore Chair and they are nice but to much chair for me to lug around in the woods.  I have two of the Double Bull Chairs the regular and Magnum and they work for me.  7 years on the smaller original version and they are in like new condition.  Not cheaply made in my opinion.  Work well for my 200lb.  I just wish they had adjustable legs.

How tall are the Double Bull chairs?  I can't sit all scrunched up (low) because of my back problems.  I need surgery but am afraid of the risks involved.

I looked at the vid for the Blind King chair last night; that thing looks pretty durn nice.  The seat looks really comfortable compared to the suspension style fabric seats on the Double Bull and others.  It's less than the Huntmore, but still pretty high.  Certainly getting lots of good ideas here, though.

Looked at the Millennium seat just now.  Don't like the support straps that run from the back to chair arms.  Looks like a recipe for bow interference, although it is a nice chair otherwise.

The Double Bull is about the same height as a normal chair (whatever that measurement is). I use mine as a camp chair in addition to its hunting use, and it is comfortable to me.

Ok, thanks.  Lots of nice looking, and comfortable looking, chair ideas here.  The Double Bull looks fairly reasonable, although the Huntmore and Blind King look like comfortable tanks that would last forever.  I might have to go with less expensive right now and send out some Christmas gift ideas for later!  I'd still like to hear any other info or ideas about alternatives that people might have.

what about just the top section of a lone wolf hand climber,, maybe 5lbs and you use the tree as the back rest, no noise and sling it around your shoulder like a possibles bag,, just a suggestion for people as anothe ground seat option...

I personally use these   http://www.nifftseat.com/brochure.htm

but they don't have back rests..

I have a Huntsmore and it broke, the hub on the legs is cast aluminum and I don't think its strong enough. I emailed them and they sent me a new hub no charge, I thought that was pretty good service.
Try a Comfortmax 360 from Cabelas or the Sportsmen Guide, stronger more comfortable and cheaper $100 from Cabelas and $55 from the Guide. It has a mesh seat so I put a sheep skin over it to be warmer.

It's a very comfortable chair. I use one for long sit's, but for shorter one's I'll use my DB Magnum. I agree with the love/hate tag. A pain to lug around and set-up, but a pleasure to sit in. The swivel seat is great.

I just used my 16" Huntmore this morning and I wouldn't be without it. I weighed mine on a scale and it was a tad over 10 lbs but I sling it over my back like a rifle (which weighs the same) and it doesn't interfere with my Safari Tuff.

I keep the seat attached to the front and just flip it up. Takes about a minute to set mine up.

My ground blind I need 360 degrees viewing and this chair swivels without making a sound. It's a great product.

I would stay away from Huntmore, very poor customer service!I was happy with mine until it broke. After a few unsuccessful attempts I got a response from the owner via email. He stated that he would send a replacement part asap. That was over a month ago and I've never received the part and my inquiries have gone unanswered. The only way I've found to contact the company is by email and that has been a waste of time.

"Looked at the Millennium seat just now. Don't like the support straps that run from the back to chair arms. Looks like a recipe for bow interference, although it is a nice chair otherwise."

Nope, the straps are not an issue at all. Actually, the straps are flush, more or less, with your side. They provide good support for your arms too.

I just used the G100 this morning for the first time. I attached it to a military frame with the molle straps and waist support belt. It carries very well and weighs in at around seven pounds. Setup is very fast. Just unzip the pouch, which is attached to the bottom of the seat, and remove the three leg assembly. Insert the tubing inside of the hole in the seat and open the three legs. adjust as needed for the terrain. No bolts, screws, etc.

It is very comfortable and swivels silently. I was setup "inside" of a beech tree which still has it's leaves. The trunk of the tree was about 3" which is too small for the G300 model. That's one of the advantages of the G100. You can set it up and be hidden most anywhere. I really enjoyed being able to swivel and look around without causing pain to my neck and back. I have a herniated G5, had two surgeries 20 years ago, so I know back pain.

I also have the G300 which attaches to a tree. It weighs in at four pounds. The advantages of the G100 is that you don't need a tree and it swivels. Basically, it's the same seat and comfort level. Here's a pic of the G300
 (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y100/foxbo/DSC_0343-438x660_zpsd990f9a4.jpg) (http://s3.photobucket.com/user/foxbo/media/DSC_0343-438x660_zpsd990f9a4.jpg.html)
These are the two most comfortable hunting chairs I've ever owned and I have several. I never bought the huntmore as I don't care for the weight or the setup time.

I'd suggest trying the G300 as it has the same seat as the G100, but has to attach to a tree. It is so comfortable that you won't believe it. I purchased a set of cheap rifle slings from walmart  and attached them to the G300 as backpack straps. You hardly even know the seat is on your back.

I've never understood the complaints with setup time and the huntmore i've timed myself many time seting it up and taking it apart (I dismantle mine fully and strap it to the top of a fanny pack or back pack) I can have it set up quietly in less than 2 minutes.

I'm sorry to hear about his loss and hope that he and his family feel God's healing hand during their time of sorrow. The broken chair is really a trivial thing when put in proper perspective . I hope they have continued success in their business . They put out a fine product.
