Title: GT and CE Arrow for 43 Lb Recurve
Post by: Coach Jones on October 05, 2014, 07:29:00 AM
Which shaft size do you recommend 43@27?  I want to be around 11.5 gpp.   Will the 15-35 be to weak with a 100 grain insert and 150 grain broadhead?

I like the fmj Easton Arrows, 500 spine with a 175 grain broad head.  They fly like darts.

I shoot 43# @28", cut shafts to 29". My bows all like 3555 GTs with about 200 up front, between the BH, adapter and insert. I also load them with 21" of 3/16" poly rope. Total weight about 550g.Can you say 'complete pass-through?'

I'm shooting both 1535s and 3555s out of my 43# recurve at 28" draw (RER XR). The 1535s are cut to 29.25 with total of 135gr (point & insert). The 3555s are cut same length, but with 185gr (point & insert).

Since you can go a tad shorter, I think the 3555s with 200 - 225gr up front will make your GPP target. I think the 1535s will be a bit light.

1535 will not be too weak. Need extra weight, add weed wacker line, or nylon rope. It's what I use with my 41# limbs clear up to 50#

Even with 250 grains on the front end?

I have several bows in the 40# to 45# range. I don't cut my arrows any more. I leave them full length and tune with point weight and side plate adjustment. I don't think anyone can tell you what arrow will shoot well out of your bow by just knowing the draw weight. There are so many other factors involved, and change any one and all the others change with it. But to guess at your original question, Yes I do think a 15/35 with 250gr up front is going to be to weak, assuming your bow is any were near center shot. Just remember the closer to center the stiffer the arrow, and farther from center the weaker the arrow.

If your bow is cut to center, you could try the 1535's cut to 28". If they are too weak it would only be slight and you could build out the site plate a little. If your bow is cut past center, a full length 3555 should do the trick.
