Title: I can't be the only one "powder"?
Post by: term on October 04, 2014, 12:21:00 AM
I find that out in the woods, camping and such. I need powder in ( places that tend to get chaffed), I can't be the only one. Wondering if pure cornstarch has much odor. Of if anyone has solution to this problem? Thanks

Unscented stick deodorant.  Construction worker's trick--works better than powder.

I use cornstarch, it has no smell...to me at least. Always works great as a wind indicator.

Thats right. Used to do this daily when I was working concrete in Florida. Works.

Reebok Performance Boxer Briefs has been the answer for me... I never tried the deodorant, yet.

I have a fairly bad case of psoriasis on my feet and other places :/ for about 10 years now I have been using Johnson's baby powder for everyday use and it works well, HOWEVER it smells, like a baby, so when I hunt I use pure cornstarch.

Caughtandhobble, has a good point also, getting the right drawers and socks can make a big difference too.

I second the sports underwear. I've tried about a million things and find that they have been most effective. Some powders will start to feel like glass shards in more "sensitive" areas.

"Body glide"
Marathoners use it to keep from getting chaffed bloody nipples.  Guess how I know...

Hahaha the chafed nipples thing makes me laugh, I've had that happen.  Soon as I started exceeding 5-8 miles when I used to run alot and wear loose t shirt it would happen.  Hop in the shower later...STING!!!  Ouch.

You'd think the cornstarch would lure the deer in right? LOL!!!

Corn starch was my go-to before I learned about the anti-persperant stick.  My dad finished concrete for 40 years, and I worked in construction myself for a lot of years here in MS--sometimes in temps over 100 degrees.

On top of that, I sweat like a prostitute in a prayer meeting.  Corn starch gets sweated away and has to be re-applied.  New drawers can get expensive--if you change on a regular basis at least.   :dunno:

Put the unscented stick anti-persperant on the areas you expect to be afflicted in the a.m., you are done for at least the day--maybe two.  Doesn't have to be a special brand--just white, unscented, stick.  It's cheap, and it works.

I've always used straight Corn Starch for powdering the crotch and feet areas, and unscented "hunter's" stick deodorant (can't think of brand off the top of my head) for the pits without any problems.

I also don't start hunting until temps are < 60 deg., so I usually don't get overly sweaty in those areas. But we do have hot showers at deer camp, and I shower daily, so I can't attest to using it for more than 1 day at a time w/out showering.

It a funny thing that too many would never get up the courage to ask but it can hamper or ruin a hunt if you are covering lots of miles.  I have tried a number of things with success over the years but the powders don't seem to help much if I got a little chaffed.

In preparing for a Spartan Race, 8 mile obstacle course, I came across a little gift from heaven,  2Toms Sport Shield.  It is a roll on lubricant that is fantastic and has even worked when trying to minimize/resolve chafing that had already started.  I have used it for nearly 5 months and am still on the first bottle, so it goes a long way.

My wife runs daily and does marathons and half marathons, she is also a huge fan.  I also like it when I am doing long, hot construction work.  No more looking like a seasoned, bow legged, bull riding champ.

I use Cetaphil lotion available at Wal Mart or any pharmacy on those sensitive areas every morning. Cured all itches and rashes. No odor either.

Dead Down Wind makes an antichafe lotion. Their boot powder will also work as a body powder.
