I find some statistics to be quite interesting at times. My youngest son and I recently participated in one of the few traditional archery only hunts that I am aware of, in the Trout Creek Mts. of SE Oregon. This particular hunt only has a 12 percent success rate. Of the harvested bucks, only 14 percent are 4 point racks (western count!) or better. My son and I were fortunate enough to both harvest bucks, and both bucks were of the 4 point or better class (both P&Y qualifiers). If my antiquated math skills are correct, we had exactly (more or less) a 2.8 chance in 10,000 of pulling this off. I hope that by the time my son is my age (a little better than 1/2 century) he will realize just what an amazing hunt we had!
Congrats to both of y'all!
I know there is a traditional only hunt held at the Macalester ammunition plant in OK every yr also!

I would say you did well.
Do you have pictures or more of the story to share?
Yeah... Pictures!

Yep, pics and story would be nice! :D
Congrats...! With your son makes it even sweeter!
I'm a stats geek too and your calculation of the odds is correct.
Way to beat the odds!!!
Awesome! Chalk one up for the trad guys!
You guys should probably play the lottery this week!!!!!!
Congratulations!
Good Shooting,

That's awesome for you both! And very cool to have a trad only hunt, perhaps that will be a more popular thing in the future. I could see residential areas leaning this way as many people feel the same about a gun as they do a mechanical head tipped arrow traveling at 350+ fps.
Wow! Go buy a lottery ticket, stat!
In all seriousness, your season says a lot about your skill. I should tag along to learn a thing or two from you. :notworthy:
My son has already bought 4 of them, he figures we have used up any luck we had! In all reality, the mule deer hunt was nothing more than a couple strokes of pure luck. I have never hunted mule deer before, we went into an area that we were totally unfamiliar with, and were extrememly fortunate. The good Lord was smiling on us during that hunt!
Better than average!!!!!
CONGATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
Congrats! Next year you need to be one of the 14% again. I've found that the same people often are in the column every year.
Mike
Congrats!
Very well done.
Nothing like a few hunts of a lifetime all wrapped up into one season. The good news is, you still have more time to hunt.
LOL, not in Oregon. One elk and one deer and it is all over for the year.
Well done!!

Sometimes it pays off to be lucky..... Congrats on your pair of bucks.
I was lucky enough to draw a second deer tag this year in the Willamette unit..... we'll see if i'm lucky enough to fill both of them.
