Today was opening day of archery season here in TX. It started out sprinkling and I did not think I was going to see anything for a while.
Then this happened!

The plant is bleeding. :goldtooth:
I didn't know cacti bled like that. :campfire:
:campfire: :coffee:
Great shot! What is bag limit on cacti in Texas?
Congratulations! Saw your deer on juneau's thread... great shot on a giant doe! I was hunting Cherry Springs here in Gillespie County this morning and saw a few 3 1/2 year old bucks, along with some evidence a pig comparable in size to those new Fiats is in the area. Getting ready to head back that way. We'll see what happens. Good luck everyone.
Bring it...think we need a spoiler alert here :campfire:
So, I got a brand new Sarrels Blueridge longbow about a month ago, and I have been dieing for archery season to get here so I could properly christen her! I got in the blind this morning with high hopes, as I have had tons of game camera pics from this setup. I sat down in the blind about an hour before sunrise, and waited for the woods to wake up. That is always one of the coolest parts of the morning hunt for me!
As soon as I got situated, it started sprinkling, and I thought to myself "Man, that rain is loud hitting the metal roof on this blind!".
It soon quit, and daylight was approaching fast!
I did not see anything for quite a while. It was long enough that I texted a buddy, telling him I was a bit disappointed. As soon as I put the phone down after that text, I looked out the window to see a deer head bobbing in the high grass, and coming my way!
Turns out there were 3 deer. A big doe and her 2 fawns. When they got close enough, I could tell that the fawns were plenty old enough, as their spots had all but disappeared!
The doe worked right up to within 12-13yds, but was not facing in a good way for a shot. That's when the rain started again! This time it was a little harder, and obnoxiously loud. Every time a loud bang on he roof would happen, the doe would look up straight in my direction. After just a minute of that, she could not stand it, got too nervous, and left with her two little ones in tow!
I again texted my buddy that I thought that doe had an angel on her shoulder that told her to skedaddle! I continued playing on the phone for a while, checking every few minutes. Well, one time I looked up, and there is a big old doe standing right in front of the blind. I don't know where she came from but the game was on again! This doe did not have any fawns either.
Way to go Brother Bisch!!!
So this doe wants to play!
After just a minute or two she is standing at about 12yds, just slightly quartering away! I draw back to a solid anchor, and let it fly. All heck broke loose as the arrow hit her, and she bounded off ripping string tracker line! The line kept going and going, and I was just a bit worried that my shot may have been too high.
Surveying the scene after the shot, is when I first saw the arrow in the cactus that is in my first post above. That made me feel a lot better, because now I knew I had a complete passthrough, and the deer only went half the distance that I thought she had!
After my standard 30 minute wait, I got out and began to track. The blood trail was not all that good, but the string tracker line led me right to her.
This is the string tracker line coming off my bow and going thru he netting in the blind window!

This is the line going along her retreat route! Sorry, got my finger in the way!

She made a big semi circle, covering at least 100yds, maybe just a bit more. She was a straight line less that 50yds from where I shot her.
This is how I found her.

That log was a big old mesquite limb on the lease that I lost earlier this year. No more "Tree of Death" until I find another lease!
"Coco" has been relegated to back-up status! This new bow is the Cat's Meow!!!!
Thanks everyone!
