Well as I posted earlier I had the wind taken out of my sails going into opening day with a custom bow failure so onto plan B. I started searching me and my dads arsenal and I found that I really like shooting the Kodiak Hunter and feel confident with it, but there on the wall is the "59er" my pride and joy !! Man does that bow shoot! I guess what I'm asking is it to much of a classic to let her hit the field again?
Nope, that's what they were built for! Good luck out there.
Put that old girl to work.....!
I would like to thank Gil Verway for giving me the opportunity to get this beauty from him! It's "64" what would be a good starting brace height?
I'd say start at 8" and go from there.
Hunt it! If it had a heart that is what it would yearn for!
I just took a gator with a 1960 Bear. Feels great to get the old bows out!
Good luck!
Yes. 8" give or take.
This ole Girl has found a new life hunting with me. Its one of my favorites!

GO FOR IT1

Lucky dog! I've never owned or shot one so I'm not much help on the BH. But is shoot the snot out of it if it's in good condition.
I've got a lot of rare guns that had never been fired til I bought them...hell with that! They don't do me a bit of good if I can't use them. I'm the same way with bows. I just painted up a Black Widow Golden Anniversary longbow and it's going to the woods with me in the morning for opening day. The paint will come right back off when I want it to. It may get scratched, scuffed, dented, etc...but I could also die in a car wreck on the way home tomorrow. I'm never hard on equipment but I use it for it's intended purpose...it's useless if I'm affraid to use it.
We only live once!
My daughter is hunting with a 1959 Kodiak I refinished. It is a beautiful shooter and even with b-50 string it's no slouch. Sometimes you get a chance to make lemonade out of lemons. Enjoy your cool drink from the past.
I'll be hunting with a '68 Super Kodiak this year, 50@28, shooting 2016 Gamegetters and 150gr Simmons Tiger Sharks
Always wanted to try one! Just love the way they look. Good luck with it!
A bow that can't hunt aim't worth having!!!!!
Bisch
Better to risk it in the field than let it collect dust on the wall.
A bow that is not hunted is like a beautiful nun.
My Kodiak De Luxe was the first pitcher onto the field this year. I think it's not gonna need much rest between assignments – the starting rotation might be a short list.
Hunt with it. I'll be hunting with 2 classic's this year...a '68 SK and a '65 Kodiak

That's a pretty pair of classics Jim.
