In PA, we're required to wear 100 sq. inches of blaze orange on our heads once turkey and small game are in.
I can't shoot with a ball cap on to save my life, and there doesn't seem to be any short brimmed blaze orange hats out there.
What do you guys wear?
Stocking cap
Filson #60065. I removed the metal rings and sewed the flaps together on mine
Stocking hat or nothing. Have you tried a boonie?
get a cheap orange ball cap and cut the bill down to size.
Jones style cap. Flo orange.
Pretty sure you can get them at LL BEAN
ONLY hat I could ever shoot a bow with
I to have a problem wearing any type of billed hat when shooting my longbow. Julia Norris, AKA "The Alabama Hat Lady", makes a reversible orange/camo hat for traditional archers with this problem. I have two and they work great. Her contact use to be alnorrisdj@hotmail.com. Hope it still works. Julia is a past IBO World Long Bow Champion and her husband makes and sells Woody Weights. He advertises in Traditional Bowhunter magazine. Good luck with your quest.
I took a Boonie hat and just kept cutting the brim back till it wasn't an issue, then made it even all the way around.
I usually wear a baseball. The full bill doesn't bother me. If it raining I wear a fedora. If it's cold I wear a stocking cap.
orange bandana, biker style :shaka:
It's usually not cold enough for a stocking cap til November, and by then archery season is almost over.
I'll have to check out the Filson and LL Bean models. Trimming down a cheap ball cap doesn't seem like a bad idea either.
are you stalking? Orange is only required to be worn when moving in the Fall during the turkey season overlap in Pa..
I use a radar style cap. You know the guy from MASH.
Its reversible orange/camo. Believe I got it from dicks sporting goods.
Or I were my leafy boonie. No orange on that
Go to Dicks or even walmart that sells the beanie style polarfleece that are fairly thin that are reversable from camo to blaze works great, thats what I use and not to warm for that time of year.
Try Day One... They have some options you may like...
Filson wool. I think it's called a Packer. Bout time to dig it out.
I know it looks stupid BUT if I'm wearing a ball cap when shooting I just turn it backwards.

I do a lot of still hunting, as well as small game hunting. Not to mention I just like being able to be seen by other hunters, you can never be too sure
I'll have to check some of these out. Guys post pictures of any of your go-to hats if you have them.
Short brim boonie in warm weather and a stormey kromer in the late season .
I only wear this for rifle deer and rabbit hunting but it's a fluorescent orange Jones style hat. Have no idea where it came from.

Stormy Kromer with no brim..........IJ
Chuck at " Two Tracks" sells a nice hunting hat. It has a short soft bill. They come in either wool or fleece. Fleece may be better suited for milder temps (its also less money). They come in hunter orange. I have a fleece one, I like mine. I can't shoot with a ball cap either.
Always wear my camo beret, no brim to deal with!
When it is warm I wear my old camo bass pro hat with a broad head pin and 44mag cartridge that I stuck in the bill. I got it a few years ago when I was deployed. When it is cold I have a old radar style hat.
I can't shoot with a ball cap either unless I turn it back ward. But I like to have a brim when the sun is in my face.
I've been using a short brimmed cap from big Jim's I also have a tradgang. Short brimmed cap both have a wire in the brim so I can bend it up out of the way of my bowstring.
Tonight I shot with my boonie hat I liked it brim is really soft and doesn't interfere with my draw anchor or string.
I may wash it up For this weekend
When it gets cool. A stocking hat is the norm.
Ball cap with a shorter than normal bill from Predator.
Just dye your hair florescent orange----
no worries with a hat!
All I have ever worn is a Bennie stocking cap.
I wear an Original "Coups Cap"..he retired last year or year before?..I pretty sure that Two Tracks makes them now, anything from Two Tracks will be high quality.
I checked my contact info for Julia Norris, the "Alabama Hat Lady" which I provided earlier. The info is correct and Julia still offers her hats at shows and by special order. She does not advertise, but her hats are light weight, extremely pack-able, and great for moderate weather hunting situations.Contact her for available patterns, sizing and price. :campfire:
I have a Boonie and old Fratzke hat...love them both. That new hat that Two Tracks offer in Malone Wool looks real super too.
I use a wool full brimmed hat from cabelas. I picked it up in Hamburg in fact. It bends out of the way super easy with no string interference.
When it's cold, stocking cap it is.
My lucky blaze orange Remington hat just cause I want to.
Bill,
could you post a picture of one of Julia's hats?
Thanks
Charlie
Trad gang short brim for me!!
Jake
For me it's a ball cap in the early season and after a few weeks when it starts to cool down I switch to a toque. We don't have any blaze regulations for bow hunting though for the mist part.
The short brim bat from brothers of the bow. Website. Awesome hat and only ten bucks!
I just bought a hat this past week. It is a short brimmed fedora style made of black wool. I have a great hat already, but, hopefully, this one will totally eliminate interference with the bow string.
stormy chromer....shortbill...
Check out Orvis, they have a wool felt fedora style in blaze orange. The brim is soft and flexable and doesn't interfere with the string.
Charlie:
I e-mailed you pictures. Unable to post pictures at this time. Not real good on the computer. Buy with confidence. :campfire:
Beanie when it is colder. I like this newsboy hat I have that is tweed looking. I still have to turn it around to shoot.
Beanie

I have a short brim boonies type hat I bought at Wal-Mart yrs. Ago
The other hat I really like is a welders cap. You can pull it down so your eyes are hidden a bit. This was my first buck back in 1996.

How about a Robin Hood hat?

i wear what i got in my avata or what ever hat i grab of the pegs
A borsalino traveler in warm weather and a first lite beanie when its cold.
Under Armor boonie hat/bucket hat, whatever you call it. Also have a Columbia wool boonie that I like when it's cold. I can't shoot in a ball cap because of the brim.
Rancher/Stormy Kromer style, when it is cool to cold. I got this one from Classic Sportsman, who is a sponsor. It has a shorter brim to stay out of the string's way. (http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac67/peastes/IMG_0177_zpsb0d725cf.jpg) (http://s886.photobucket.com/user/peastes/media/IMG_0177_zpsb0d725cf.jpg.html)
When it is warm, I have a cap from Big Jim that has a short brim with a wire inside that keeps it away from the string. The Wensels sell a similar one.
Sitka Beanie is my favorite. I can't even wear a short-billed ball cap with a wire rimmed fold down bill. It bugs the heck out of me to feel the string touch that bill when I draw.
