Title: Love them mineral rocks
Post by: Legolas on September 23, 2014, 05:44:00 PM
Deer are licking them like a 3 year old does with a vanilla cone and a jelly bean at the bottom!
I put a few out near my stands- looks great.

I've always had better luck with a mineral source/supplement in early spring before green-up.  Have the rocks got something they need this time of year?

The deer have been killing the salt pits my brother made. Just pour out 40 lbs. bags of water softener pellets in a fairly well traveled area and the deer will dig the pits for you.

Ha, don't fly around the saltwater environment we  hunt!, have not used or tried them in yrs. long before the onset of trail cams.

They are cool, I have hunted areas just a little inland and they work great. But my slat marsh areas are just a no go.

Do y'all have trail cams on them?? Be cool to see

They are good!

I have run trail cameras on mineral licks for years now. The bucks use them heavily from May until their velvet comes off the first of Sept. After that their bodies don't crave the minerals as much and the trail cam pics drop WAY off.

I urge anyone who wants to to put them out as they are critical in antler development. But with that said hunting over them really isn't productive as by the time most deer seasons start the deer aren't using them any longer.
