Title: Finger pain on bow hand?
Post by: threeunder on September 23, 2014, 11:09:00 AM
I've been having some really intense finger pain (middle finger) on the hand I hold my bow with.  It usually starts as I'm pulling arrows from a target.  Yesterday, was the first time that holding my bow and shooting made it feel worse.

The pain is an intense burning (like a torch on it).  I feel like it is nerve pain and pulling on arrows with that hand must "tweak" the nerve in that finger.

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.  How do you deal with it other than to pull arrows with other hand (which I'm doing).

If it were me, I would shoot till I couldn't anymore.

A few years ago, I had numbness in my hand.  I didn't worry because I could still shoot, till the day I was at a friends and I couldn't pull my bow back 6".

Went to the Doctor a few days later, who sent me to a Physical Therapist where I found out I had a pinched nerve in my neck causing it.

Best thing to do is not ask us our opinion, but get the opinion of a trained Medical professional.

It sounds like its nerve pain, I would see a hand specialist.  You could have a compression issue somewhere.

This is the bow hand, he holds his bow with this hand. If it hurts, don't do it and go see a doctor. It can be something totally unrelated to shooting a bow. I had shingles once that I thought was from shooting my bow, it was not.
On a side note, I have had a bow that I held loose that jumped after I shot it that bothered my bow hand, I hold it tighter and the issue is not there. I held the bow with the top finger and it must jump to my middle finger when shot. I make sure all fingers touch the riser on that bow when shot.
