Title: Trail cam bruiser!
Post by: Biathlonman on September 22, 2014, 05:24:00 PM
We've owned this property in southeast Ohio for about 25 years and have always seen some good deer. My brother hung a couple trail cameras for the first time ever last month and pulled them this week. He thinks it's an old deer, I'm not so sure.  What says the experts?  Certainly gets me fired up for deer season!

Nice buck, but doesn't look that old to me.  Body just isn't that filled out.  I'd guess him at 3 1/2.

Appropriate thread title!!!!!!

Not sure on age, but he would not get a pass if he showed up where I hunt!

Good luck hunting him!

I agree with Orion, 3-4. Damn nice buck though. Love to see him in 3 more years.

3-4 I would say also. See his back is slight bow, he starting to get a gut and heavy front shoulders. U can see in his face he isn't a prime or ripe as Barry W calls. But that's my opinion. Here in pa that deer wouldn't make it.

I'm going to guess 4 with his heavy shoulders and his neck connecting low on his chest. Heck of a buck! I'm going to guess he's in the mid 150's, hopefully you can get him on the ground and let us know! Good luck!!

Agree on 3 maybe 4 yrs. . . BUT WOW!  What a great rack! 65+" a side.  Not sure I could pass him, but agree- 1-2 more years would be amazing to see.

Funny thing is I've invited several of my hunting buddies up the last few years and everyone has blown me off. Sent these around today and everyone wants to know when I'm driving up!  Lol

I am going to agree...  3.5 yrs maybe 4.5.  Still a prtty trim body and "fine" head. Kind of a "tea cup" nose.  From the view, he has not begun to develop the pot belly and swayed back (first pic shows a pretty flat back)(as to pot belly one must remember how well fed these deer are) found on a more mature deer.  He is just now building mass but, he is still a youngster.

I know it is hard on smaller and more confined pieces of ground but if there was any way, I would like to see him in at least another two years.  I suspect with good food and no fighting damage he would be a bruiser.....

I'm going with 3-4 as well. Great looking deer thats for sure! I wish I had private land to manage the game. As it is, if I were to pass him up he's be dead in another week. Good luck out there!

I can't guess on age but, I can say, if he gave me a broadside he'd never see another sunrise!   :biglaugh:

We don't really manage anything. We've only got 30 acres that is pretty much surrounded by public land. Great genetics we do have!

I agree with 3 1/2, based on body structure, great deer and would be even better next year, that being said he would be hard to pass up.

Lol... that's great! It's funny how different everyone is with telling what they know... In certain areas I will not even leave a gut pile at the kill site so my wife won't find it while hunting. Wait... I'm not married but you get the point?!?

I'm w/ roobhood23,
4.5 or better. Either way you should feel very fortunate to have deer like that to hunt.
Good luck
