Well, due to a shoulder injury this past spring, i was unable to pull and anchor my longbow. So I went to the local archery range and tried a compound. I didn't have a problem pulling back and holding a compound. So I thought well, it is what it is. So I sold one of my Beautiful cari bows to Keith Zimmerman to fund this wheel contraption. After 20 years of hunting with a longbow, this was a hard thing for me to do. Well after buying every bell and whistle for this thing, i was ready to go. I shot this compound for about a week. then I said to myself (this is not me) So I put it away. After 3 months of physio my shoulder has improved. Im not 100% but I can pull and hold my longbow, and Im good for about 15 yards. Most of my kills are from 10 to 15 yards anyway. Lets just Say I wont be bench pressing 350 lb anytime soon. Im not 30 anymore.
Good to hear your in recovery. The deer have something to fear again.good luck this season.
Welcome back-Hap
Glad the shoulder is getting better, sure the wheels might bring enough to fund another lb in lesser but comfortable weight. Good luck.
Good for you!!! Good luck this season!
Glad your back and good luck!
Sounds encouraging. Follow your Heart! Heal up good and Go Hunt!
Good for you!!!
In April I herniated a disk in my neck which caused nerve damage. I now have weakness in my left arm. I set September 1 as a deadline for shooting a hunting weight longbow. If not, I was going the compound route. I'm now shooting 45 lbs., and I'm thrilled to be able to continue on the traditional road.
Thanks all ! You have no idea how hard it was for me to go to a compound.I have nothing against them. But its just not me. But hours of Physio is helping my shoulder. I even canceled a caribou hunt this fall because I couldn't hunt them with my stick. Abe told me tonight he has a lighter longbow for me. Ill be paying them a visit when the Penner family gets back from their Northern Manitoba river moose hunt.
Glad to hear your back :clapper:
Bill
I am also back to shooting after a long layoff. It feels so good to be back flinging arrows - even if they are only coming out of a 40 lb bow.
Greats news Darren!
Sounds to me as if you can hunt even if it's with what most folks seem to be calling a "light wt" bow.
All this means to me is I need to hone my skills so I can get closer.
Many a large bodied deer has fallen to 40 lb pull bows.
Good luck!!
God bless,Mudd
Best isometrics is the even pull of a longbow.
A customer of mine last week killed a caribou with a 40lb recurve that Abe made for him for this hunt. I didn't get all the details, but i do know it was a complete pass through. Beautiful caribou to. His Nephew dropped it off at my shop the other day.
Good to hear! I did the same thing with the wheel bow several years ago when I was going thru a horrible shooting slump right before deer season opened. I shot it for about 2 weeks, and even shot a couple deer with it. But after that two weeks, I was not really enjoying myself and was telling myself that the wheels were not "me".
I went back to my longbow and worked thru my problems and harvested a couple more deer with the longbow that year, and never looked back!!!!
Good luck to you!
