Title: Soft tanning a snake skin
Post by: Medic85 on September 20, 2014, 07:05:00 PM
Hey guys not sure if this is the place to post this but does anyone have a good recipe for a snake tan solution.  They have apparently quit making the Rep Tan solution and I have some hides I'd like to soft tan.  Any input is appreciated.

I think you can use anti freeze (ethylene Glycol) (sp) but I am not sure how you do it.  Might do a search on here to find some info....

50% denatured alcohol 50% humco glycerin. Tack the skin out on a board and remove ALL the fleshy tissue. Then paint the skin thoroughly 3 times a day for a week. You will have a soft and flexible skin but won't stick to any glues.

this may sound gross but you can tan a snake skin with your own urine.  The uric acid does the job.  Goggle it.

Urine is probably one of the oldest tanning methods.
