I had a guy ask me what the black line was around my arrow in this pic of my bow hanging in the treestand. So I thought I would share.
I draw that line around each arrow right at the back of my side plate material when I get my bow brace height the way I want it. Every time I am headed to the treestand I put an arrow on the bow and I can tell if my BH is right before I leave. Have a stringer in the truck just in case. If you use your arrows for multiple bows like I do, you can remove the line or use a different color for another bow.

That is a great way to check bh. I used to crest a line there on my arrows when I took the time to dip and crest them. I think I will do it again. Thanks for the reminder.
-
Neat idea Tom, but I expected to open this thread and see a pic of another one of your arrows with blood on it. :biglaugh:
-
Many use cresting to do that

X2, but thanks for the great tip!

Haha, dang Fred I have a wife and daughter you know. My hunting time is a dance on that fine line of trying to stay out of trouble. I did slip out after work yesterday and move a stand in preparation of some doe hunting though. Hunters gotta hunt right?
-
Great idea. Unfortunately I have three bows that all have different BH but all use the same arrow. Might just use one stripe for one bow then two stripes for the other and so on.
-
Genius!!!
-
TJ, great idea. Thanks for sharing it!
By the way.... I love your new "Broadhead" cover!
-
Thanks Dan, I took that pick and sent it to Bill to rub in that I was able to hunt and he couldn't get out yet! I'm a terrible friend.

I'm with Fred, I thought I was going to see another bloody shaft Tom!
I used to do the same thing-way back before life got so busy, great idea!!

Great idea!

When my fistmele is right the point of my fletching is very near the back of the shelf, same effect.
-
I thought it was a "Tubrolator" or something like that :knothead:

Who notices a small line on an arrow that is sitting on a sexy bow like that?! Look at that bow! That's like when my wife asks if I noticed her fingernails! I say, "no, but you look hot!" :goldtooth:
But actually that is a great tip and I'm going to use it. I just recently realized that my brace hight was way off... I never check it. This is great way to keep tabs on it.
-
Good idea I am going to do that before I go to the woods this season.
-
There's that beautiful riser that we both let get away. Glad you got her back and are putting her to good use. :archer2:

Me too! My PCH seems to really like 9" and if it gets much less it seems to really make a difference. I mark mine with a sharpie.
-
Wayne, Yeah I use a sharpie also. I use these shafts for multiple bows but only use one bow at a time so when I switch bows I simply wipe off the sharpie mark with acetone and draw the new line for the other bow.

Great tip but yup... I totally expected blood everywhere when I saw the first photo :)
-
I also have more than one bow that can fling the same arrow so this idea wouldn't work for me but it's a great idea.

Useful info for someone new to traditional bows like me. I am just starting to really learn many aspects of tuning. Great post, thanks.

This is a great idea!! I was shooting great then fell apart i was focusing on everything but still shooting like crap. Finally checked my brace height and bingo it was a little low. Fixed it and shot groups got smaller. :)

Matthew, it is a great idea, but I can't take credit for it. I saw a post on it years ago from someone here on TG. Good stuff!
