Where we hunt in Louisiana is getting completely ran over with hogs. Every february(squirrel season), we chase those hogs for the entire month. I am opening an invitation to anyone who would want to come down and hunt with us. We have a camping area, water, electricity, and plenty of room for tents.
This will be on public land, so you will have to purchase a 3 day license or so, but no other fees. Free camping, free hunting, and a great camp fire!
No baiting is allowed, and there is only about 50,000 acres for us to hunt. I have already killed 9 this year(in the last month) and saw close to 20 in 2 trips.
IF anyone is interested, reply or pm me. I want to make this happen!
****INFO I LEFT OUT****
The place we will be hunting is called Boeuf WMA(pronounced Bef) with the camping area near 1384 Horseshoe Lake Road Columbia, La 71418.
We own 25 acres that butts up to the WMA, so all hunting land is within walking distance. The hog numbers have been getting crazy. 3 years ago, I saw a lot of sign, but no hogs. Last year we killed 10 and I know that I personally saw over 100. I saw over 50 in one group. In 2 trips scouting this year I have seen 8 in one group, 6 in another group, and 7 in another group. All in different areas, all different pigs as 2 of the encounters were on the same day. I am confident that we will have no problem FINDING the pigs, the problem will be killing them.
There is a variety of terrain you have to choose from. Creeks, thickets, big woods, oak flats, low lands, ridges, whatever you desire and I will do my very best to help in anyway possible. We also have a variety of options for you as entering the WMA. Boat, atv, truck, feet.
No matter what, we will have a blast, eat good, and on saturday night we will have a little devotional time and give thanks to the lord for His beautiful creation.
There are also fishing opportunities, if you wish, as the land butts up to a lake also. A great perch lake i might add.
I will take up to 15 people, but have to cut it off at that.
Prepare to sleep in a tent. If something is available, i will let you know.
Usually in LA at this time, It is pretty cold, but we will discuss all that at a later date.
The projected date at this time is February 6th,7th, and 8th.
**again, if this doesn't work for you, let me know now so we can see what works best for you.
IF YOU WANT TO CONFIRM YOUR SPOT, I NEED YOUR NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS AND A PHONE NUMBER I CAN CONTACT YOU WITH.
**********IMPORTANT********
To anyone born AFTER Sept 1, 1969, you will have to have completed and show proof of completing a Hunters Safety course.
I lived in Bossier City for a while. Would love to come down but will have to study on this. It's about a 20 hour drive for me. I'm sure it'll be a great time. Good of you to offer it up.
31 years ago it was a 20 hour trip to Bossier. Looking at a map it might be about 13 now to Monroe. Might have to give this some serious thought.
Thanks again for the offer.
Daniel,
I pm'd you.
If we can get a crew, I'll go up there Daniel. I'm in Lafayette
PM'd you Daniel.
What are the dates your wanting to do it? Also how much are licence?
http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/licenses/hunting-licenses
Here is a link to the cost of a license. It looks like it will be right about $100.
Since this is in squirrel season, you can legally hunt squirrels with bows here, you only have to buy a small game license.
Since this is on a WMA, you will have to buy a preserve permit which is $15.
I am not 100% set on a date yet, as I will cater to what you guys would like to do. My only desire is, I would like to get everyone there the same weekend(friday, saturday, sunday)
If anyone interested has any plans for february that you already know of, let me know and we can try to take that weekend out of the options.
wow, nice offer. Sounds like a great time is gonna happen. I am already booked on a big drive trip in early March or I would be very interested.
Maybe if you do this again next year ? (hint hint)
Thanks for the offer

Since you are so close, you are welcome anytime!
Do you know Stephen Raggio? He also lives in Lafayette and hunts with us. I think last year we killed 13 deer and about 10 hogs between 4 us us. We missed far more opportunities than that while pursuing the pigs though..
Sounds like a fun time, Daniel. I am just over 100 miles from you and February is nice and cool. I will send you an email.
Daniel,
I'm tied up the last two weeks of February but the weekend of Feb 6-7-8 is wide open.

Chuck,
should things turn out like I hope, this will be the 1st ANNUAL, with many more to come! People are already paying $$ and driving hours to hunt. Why not pay nothing and drive hours?!?! lol.
The good news is, the hog population is going crazy here. Each annual hunt should get better and better!!
I would definitely be interested in joining you on this hunt. With luck, I might be able to get "Ric O'Shay" to tag along as well. Additional info would be helpful regarding location(driving time). We would be coming out of the Dallas, TX area. :campfire:

Pete,
We will tentatively plan for this weekend. If more people have plans this weekend than others, we may have to move it. I want to do whats best for everyone. When i get the final list compiled, I will individually message everyone and get some more details. As of right now, I have 5 people who said they can make it and about that many who are interested.
I am not dead set on taking 10, so if we can get 15, come on! The more the merrier!!

Sounds good, Steve told me they hunted there a few times last year. I'm in as long as my schedule holds. I'll supply dinner one night.

Jaceson,
pm me with your Name, Number, and Email address. I only have a few spots left and I'm sure some will open up close to the hunt, as things come up.
You can always confirm now and if you can't make it, let me know a few weeks in advance and we should be fine!
Daniel
I am currently waiting to hear back from a few people who have already contacted me. We have 15 confirmed, and about 3 to 4 others who I am waiting to hear back from.
The campfire is full at this time!! :campfire:
Gonna be a great time! I cant wait.
Waiting list has began also!!!
This is turning out great!!

Steve must mean by "a few times" that he was here almost every weekend! lol He pulled his camper up and all! It is a blast to say the least!!
Man if we could kill some squirrels and cook them low and slow in a black iron pot or maybe a little piggie in a cajun microwave ???????
Maybe a seafood gumbo???????? Decisions, decisions
Daniel,
Very cool of you!! I have a scheduling conflict this yet, maybe next year if this becomes an annual thing. Very, very kind of you.
Jake
awbowman, You're talking my language! I am so looking forward to this - as much the food as the hunting  :campfire:
Daniel,
Would it be possible, and if permtitted, to post the list of confirmed attendees and their Trad Gang handles?
Could be quite productive in conversing with other applicable TG members and developing some repoire and enhanced connections prior to embarking on this special adventure.
Good idea Scott
I'd be happy to make a mess of pulled pork for sandwiches, some cole slaw and potato salad so folks can have lunch whenever they're ready?
I was going to say, Ray is a dang good cook too. Chicken dumpling soup.............yum. Pulled pork would be ok also.
Daniel,
I live in Breaux Bridge and am interested. Maybe I can get with ABowman and head north. Sounds great! Please keep me posted.
Let's hear about your hog setup? I'll probably be shooting my Super D with Douglas firs at a little over 600 grains. Simmon safaris on the business end.
I will be shooting my 63# GN Critter Gitter, 55/75 GTs with grizzly heads. Or my JD Berry Vixen with self nocked cedars and simmons interceptors.. Cant wait
Fellas,
I am not ignoring your PM's. My daughter(15 months old) was omitted to the hospital yesterday so I have been up here with her and will be for the next couple days.
Thank you for your patience.
I am working on a way we can all communicate. I will get back with you fellas in a couple days.
She has a staph infection that turned into 2 boils on her bottom. Lanced them last night, on antibiotics did the next couple days. Hopefully be home tomorrow.
Daniel
I downloaded the Louisiana regs and it appears to me that a NR will need the "Basic Season" license that is $150 plus the WMA permit at $15.
I'll be hunting with my BW PCH-X in my signature, 5575 GTs with 100 grain inserts and probably a 175 grain BH... yet to be determined. The arrow will weight about 565 grains total.
Daniel... she and your family are in our prayers. Family first!!
Wayne
Daniel, praying your daughter has a quick recovery. Take all the time you need.keep us posted on her.
God Bless you and your family Daniel. Hope all goes well.

Wayne, i will doubly check that. If you only plan on hunting 3 days, you would be better off buying the daily pass, which is about $30/day if I remember correctly. But you will need the WMA permit
May your little one's suffering pass most quickly.
Thank you for the prayers. Some how(God), we are already home!!! We were supposed to be there until at LEAST saturday, possibly sunday. The dr. came in this AM and said everything looks way better than expect, so we were discharged! Hallelujah!
What is in the makings at this time..
I have contacted Terry Green to see if we can have our own little "club" where it will be password entry only, and will allow all of us to contact/discuss/fellowship much easier than using this forum.
Not that we don't want others viewing it, we just need to plan out this awesome weekend ahead of time..
To say i'm excited is an understatement!
Lets just hope the hogs are cooperative.. :campfire:
Not this year, but maybe next year I will be vary interested. Hopefully I can get a couple deer under my trad. belt. Sure like to meet and hunt with a bunch of Guys or Gals from the Trad community.
So glad to hear your daughters home, and doing well.

Good to hear of your daughters early recovery. The power of prayers!
Looking forward to meeting all the guys and sharing a camp and good food.
Tom

UPDATE: We now have our own forum. It is under the 'clubs' category It is password protected, so message me for the password. I would message all of you, but I left my list at work thursday in the rush to get to the hospital and wont be able to get it before monday.
