Title: Fake rub line?
Post by: JesseS on September 26, 2007, 11:18:00 PM
I know a lot of people use fake scrapes but how about rub lines to get the buck to walk where you want? I am thinking of trying this. Just wanted to see if any of you have done it? Any luck?

You'll need scent to put on the rubs. They're marking with the glands over their eyes when they rub just like they mark when the scrape.

Good to know. Thanks. I had no idea there was scent on rubs.

I was hunting a public hunting area about 35 years ago and had a place scouted out and ground blind built at the end of a logging road. I knew most of the people unfamiliar with the area would drive to the end of the road and bail out to hunt. About a half mile back down the road was a sharp turn so I used my hatchet to make a bunch of fake rubs visible from the vehicle when one slowed down to make the turn.

I was in my blind before daylight, no one else drove to the end of the road, I killed a nice 8 point about 7:30 that morning.

After I loaded my buck I drove out on the logging road. When I got to the sharp turn there were 5 vehicles parked on the side of the road in the turn. Bottom line, fake rubs don't mean much to bucks but attract hunters that haven't done their scouting homework in droves.

Deer leave scent when walking, stomping, peeing, pooing, scraps, rubs, beding.... know what scent to use and when is the key.... more & more hunters are taking the glands from the game...

I tried it once.  After about the 3rd rub, my head was too sore to go on.  So I'd have to say they don't work.

Thats funny. Good advice it just seems like all the rubs I find are never by a nice tree. Always in the thick stuff.I will post my results.
