Title: Frame Packs (For gear and packing out)
Post by: Biggamefish on September 14, 2014, 07:00:00 AM
I am looking to get a frame pack that is lightweight and on the smaller side but can do a big job.  I want it to be able to hold my gear but still pack stuff out.  I wont be packing elk (yet someday hopefully) but deer or bear etc.  What are your guys suggestions.

Something I could hike with all day too.

I have a Marine corp issue pack and frame that I have used for the last 10 or so years ... packed out elk ; bear ; deer and hundreds of coon hides ; walked lots of miles with it and never had any problems .

I'm really liking my Stone Glacier pack. Here's a link to more info.

If it looks like it's something your interested in, I'll send you a link to a review that I did.

About 30 years ago I bought the Camp Trails Freighter pack frame (# 205 I believe it is) and found it sturdy and comfortable for packing critters and gear, and even has a removable lower shelf.

For versatility, I picked up a nylon pack which can be easily attached to the freighter.

I have used it every year and I never leave it home when hunting.  I may not always get it bloody, but it's a welcome sight when I need it...and believe they are still being made.
