I just received my new Wes Wallace Mentor takedown a few days ago. I'm loving the stability with the mass in the riser and the flat checkered grip, not to mention the bow is beautiful and shoots with authority.
The recommended brace hieight is 7.5-8 inches. I tried shooting at 7.5 but I get a little rattle after the shot. When I change it to 7 3/4 it's fine. Has anyone else experienced this and any suggestions to quiet it down at the 7.5?
Thanks!

I dont think I would worry about having the Mentor 1/4 inch lower in brace hieght.you wont gain much at all in spead.sounds like 7 and 3/4er may be the sweet spot.It may be even better at 8"
A bow typically has a sweet spot for that bow and the archer shooting it.Draw length and varying degrees of finger pressure, thickness of fingers can make a difference in a bow shooting slightly better at different brace hieghts for different archers.
A string like SBd sales in 6 or 8 strand may dampen out the limbs faster and the string may dampen out faster as well with a string like this.Is your using a fatter string of say 14 strands or more you may some benefit to a skinny string.
I personally prefer wool puffs over anything for stopping string oscillation noise.
I shot my Blacktails that were 64 inches at 7.75 to 7 and 7/8th.I think the recommendation on those was 7.5 to 8".Thier very similar to a mentors design.
My Blacktails always shot quieter and nicer with a skinny 8 strand string and wool puffs than the stock string that came with them.

What is the bow specs and arrow specs? I have my mentors at 7 7/8 to 8
I have 3 my red elm limb older model is the quietest. My yew limb 1 yr old mentor is the loudest of the three. The other is a action boo which is very quiet as well. I use cat whiskers for practical reasons rain, burrs and such do not bother them.

It is 62 inches. 49@29 with boo cores. I'm shooting 490 grain (total weight) GT traditional arrows. 12 strand Rhino string padded to 18 in the loops with cat whiskers. She rattles at 7.5 but it's not bad at 7 3/4. I just like the smoother feel of the draw at the lower brace height but I might just need to keep it at 7 3/4

I tried the 7.5 just like you..too loud. Went with 7 3/4 ins. much better with the noise level. I ended up putting the rubber silencers on the string, works great. And bought me a SBD string..works even better.
Good luck

Is the brace height measured from the throat of the handle or the back of the riser?
-
Measure from the deepest part of the grip

Thanks

My WW Mentor likes 7.5/8-7.3/4...wool puffs...

Just another thought. Wes mentioned putting wax paper between limb and riser just to eliminate another possible cause of noise
-
Interesting Northerner. I left a message with Wes as well. Regular wax paper?
Thanks!

My 66" Mentor does the same with the BH set at 7 1/2", but I don't think wax paper would help me.
(It's a 1 pc. :D )
Much better at 7 3/4.

Yes Regular wax paper

Good timing on this post as a Mentor is heading my way soon. Thanks for the tips-especially the wax paper.

Mine also likes 7 3/4"

String wax on riser at limb connection will help also.

I tried the wax paper and it was of no help. I have to shoot mine at 8 or it is simply too loud. I couldn't hunt with it at even 7 7/8 as the rattle is just too much. Anyone else have to keep theirs at 8?
