Since it's archery season in many parts of the country, daily practice is in full swing and sometimes buddies come over for a shoot. I needed a safe place to put our bows and arrows while being pretty portable at the same time. A recent post online reminded of PVC bow stands and I decided to tackle the project today.
I built this one with 4 arrow tubes and plenty of room for 4 bows (I fit 6 on there easy, but the extra space between the bows is nice). The footing was set up so I could step between arrow tubes and carry the stand to where it needs to go. The 4 arrow tubes and 4 legs are removable for storage. The bottom of the tubes have 5 tiny holes drilled in them for drainage in case it rains. Here it is holding a Bob Lee Bicentennial, Firefly TD Longbow, Dryad Orion and Fox Breed...

I painted it solid OD Green, but my Wife wants me to camo it out. What say you? (I know, just listen to my Wife... it's a LOT safer.)
I know there are a bunch of different ideas out there, so if you've built one too, please feel free to post a pic of yours for future inspiration.
Lets see yours...
Happy Hunting,
Stump

Nice set-up!
I like the OD Green, but, like you say, maybe the camo is a better option...

That's some real innovation right there very nice
-
Too cool. I need to build something like that.
-
That's cool. Great collection of bow's also.
-
Thats a sweet setup, I need one for sure now.

Thanks Guys. Im looking forward to seeing yours!
Wannabe1, I built the backstop this year too. It has 2 horse stall mats attached to the back and a tarp cover to keep UV/rain target deterioration to a minimum. The bar up top allows me to hang bags, balls or old 3D parts to mix it up when shooting, or I can pull all the hanging targets and fit a full sized 3D deer inside. I also made this one relatively easy to break down, so we can take it when we flee the state when I retire. :D

That's cool I would have never of thought of that.

Thanx for sharing...

Nice looking range and rack....
Tell the Wife she did a good job designing the rack....

That's awesome! The bow rack is a perfect compliment to the target set up. I keep saying I'm going to build "something". Really at this point "anything" would be an improvment. I've lost 2 arrows from my latest batch of surewoods I made up, and while cheaper than past arrows it still pangs my heart a little more each time I do it with home made ones, haha. But its like I tell my wife, losing arrows is just part of it. Still, if my buddy had a set up like that I'd pitch a tent in his yard! Haha

You better get a patent on that QUICK or 3Rivers will be selling them for $200.00 plus $40.00 shipping. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
that is a great setup all around. only thing missing is a broadhead pit.
-
Here's my backyard. Seat is now about 15 yards from bag target. Arrows go in 4"drain tile tube if I'm sitting. (http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee458/jimavelis/seat.jpg)
On tree limb by the bag I wrapped either a pool noodle or pipe insulation to hang my Tmimberhawk bow. (http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee458/jimavelis/bowhanger.jpg)
If I miss bag, I go searching the wooded area behind the bag. I own 1.6 acres and have nothing behind the bag for a looong way.

Great looking bow rack. Could you tell us the size and lengths of the PVC? I know many would be interested in making a rack like that one. I sure would. Thanks
-
Very nice! You've put a lot of thought into your setup. Thanks for sharing! :clapper:

gonetocamp,
Sorry for the delayed reply. Here are the parts needed for each section...
TOP: (Glue Together)
4 - 12"x1" PVC
1 - 30"x1" PVC
4 - 90 degree elbows
2 - Tees
Bottom: (Glue Together)
4 - 14"x1" PVC
1 - 7.5"x1" PVC
4 - 2"x1" PVC
4 - 90 degree elbows
2 - Tees
4 - 45 degree elbows
LEGS: (Glue each)
4 - 6"x1" PVC
4 - 28"x1" PVC
4 - Tees
QUIVERS: (Glue each)
4 - 12"x2" PVC
4 - 7"x2" PVC
4 - 2" PVC
4 - Caps 2"
4 - 1"-2" Tee Adapters
PADDING:
1 - Tube of gray pipe insulation foam.
Once each section is glued up, you can assemble (I would, and did, dry assemble of all pieces before gluing anything up).
Once it's all together, I just Krylon'd the whole thing and can take it down when needed. If you get really crazy, you can make little quivers for water bottles on the outside, Just use CROSS joints instead of Tees there and buy a little more 2" pipe, 4 more 1"-2" converters and 4 caps.
For the top of the quivers, I asked the local hardware store if I could have the ends of the pipe they cut for me so there was a flare at the top of each quiver. Worked out Great!
Not including the paint, I think I paid around $65 for the PVC and foam since I didn't have any of it here already. If you know a plumber, you could probably get most of what you need from left overs at job sites and hardly spend anything on it but time.
Hope this helps and the possibilities are endless. As a matter of fact, this isn't exactly what it looked like in my drawing, but it's much more rigid now set up this way.
Now I have to get back outside and camo this thing to make the Wife happy. :D
All the Best,
Stump

Very Nice work. Thanks for sharing the instruction to make it!
Does this come apart for storage?

Yes it will come apart if ya don't glue it together..

Steve,
If you just glue the sections together as the listed above, the legs will pull out from the top and bottom frames. The quivers are also removable from the legs.
As Mike said, the entire thing can be disassembled (depending on how tight the parts fit together) if none of the parts are glued... as a matter of fact, it may do that all by itself (Again, depending on how tight the parts fit together). :biglaugh:
Hope this helps,
Mike
