Title: Beman MFX shafts
Post by: DanielB89 on September 08, 2014, 09:24:00 AM
I had a friend trade me a bunch of MFX shafts that I have been shooting for a little while now.  Overall, I like them a lot.  One thing I do not like is how the HIT inserts will allow the field tip to crack the arrow(i know I can foot them, thats why I am writing this post), so what size aluminum shaft do you use to foot them?

Also, has anyone has a problem with the nocks getting blown off?  I have never had an arrow break on me, but i have has the front crack, and the nock get broken.

**I am shooting .340 spined arrows.**

Is there a better nock out there for me to be shooting?  One that is a little sturdier?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

What spine shafts do you have that would help others with a answer for you

The only knock I broke was from an arrow tip, otherwise no problems.
I footed my 500s with aluminum 2020, found a nice dark wood grain arrow. I've been shooting MFXs for 3 years and did not start with the footing. There is a magnificent difference in strength and arrow longevity. I like shooting off the bag... chipmunk, stumps, 100 yards into a field at a grass hill if the setting is simply nice to watch an arrow fly... I smashed a lot of tips back into splintered shafts and was even able to repair many with a 1.5" of I think 2219 footing. There are a lot of good you tube videos. The most convincing was done by a member here. It's a slow motion video of arrows into concrete footed and not. Ill add it if I can find it. Good luck!

Mr. Lamb put together a chart...

There's so much great information in that "how-to" section.  Good luck!

Jeremy,
thanks.  i found this after posting.  I have never shot aluminum before, so i will have to try to track down some of these shafts.

Daniel

does anyone think that bigjims hotglue will suffice for securing the footings?

Not sure on the hotglue.  I used Gorilla Glue and had mixed results.

I went and bought some 5 min. epoxy at my local hardware store.  Never had an issue since.

I believe I bought 6 from Kustom King... I wanted them to look nice. I used JB Weld with great results.

Probably a 2016, 2020 works on 500, I used 2018 on 400.

For nocks you only have two choices, the Easton X-nock or Bohning A-nock.

I am kind of curious why your arrows are splitting.  If you are using a permanent epoxy the points should not move rearward.  If you use a to melt it will cause a problem with hit inserts.

I'd go by the chart above which says 2016. I use the mfx 600 s and foot at front w 1816 and even put about 1/4 inch piece at nock end. You will have to name your arrows though cause short of losing one or having a deer roll on one or run off with it you're gonna have them a longgggggg time. The truly are bullet proof when you foot them. I use a good 2 part epoxy.

Yes...2016's fit snugly over wrapped MFX 340's but not so much the Axis Nano un-wrapped (no wood graphics).  2016's have more play on these as they are a smaller diameter, less the wrap.

When i got the arrows all the inserts were installed.  I am going to try out footing the shafts.

Does anyone have a 2016 they would like to sell?
