I got a chance to do some scouting today in one of my better areas. It is always amazes me the difference a year makes. Last years hot spots have no sign what so ever. Nuts are dropping heavy in a lot of areas and all the rain has turned some places into a jungle.

The ticks finally drove me out. I thought I could get by with some Repel instead of my usual permethrine. I was wrong. :banghead:
The good news is that one of my favorite spots is getting used heavily. I just hope it last a few more weeks. This spot has been the end of the trail for a bunch of deer. Especially when red oaks are dropping.

I have a ton of acorns on my property also! Can't wait for October. My main objective is to get some deer in front of my nine year old daughter.
Those are red oak acorns. Find some white oaks. Deer prefer white over red but they will eat the reds in a pinch.
Seems most of the acorns are gone by the time NY opens on Oct 1st. They are falling pretty fast here now.
Good Luck Rob.
I've got my eye on the white oaks too. My walk in was white oak crunchy. I love hunting this area. I think this is my 23rd bow season there.
They're coming down pretty good in ILLinois also-Hap
I hope you guys have more whites than I have. I have seen a fair number of Red Oaks with acorns, but the White Oaks are not producing heavily.
Here in Saratoga County, New York both the red and the white oaks are loaded with acorns as well as the burr oaks. I plan on concentrating most of my hunting in the white oaks because they have less tannic acid in them which makes them sweeter tasting to deer and bear. Problem is, with so much hard mast on the ground it'll be hard to pinpoint where the game will be from day to day.
Good luck Rob! Hopefully you'll get a shot on a bruiser while his head is down munching! :D
My farm in Kentucky is just raining acorns....they r very plentiful this year.
I have tons of white oak and red oak acorns this year. Around here that makes for hard hunting cause they don't move much. Hard to find which trees they are using.
Big ED, are you using the mentor program? I'm going to try with my daughter this year too.

Yep, same here, our opener was this past weekend and they aren't moving much. The farm I hunt has white oaks everywhere.
Nice Rob, bumper crop here as well. Gonna be some fat deer this time.
