I have 6 stands that have extra long chains on them that I put up in proven spots or big diameter pain the but trees and leave them all season.
All summer I kept saying I think I'm missing a stand and my wife would say no we got them all down in January. But it kept bugging me.
Today I was clearing lanes and putting in bright eyes and other stand prep stuff. I happen to see a great buck cross a 2 track and I thought I used to hunt a half mile in there at a pinch point, I'm gonna take a min and check it out. When I got to the pinch point I saw a stand in the tree and was pretty upset thinking someone found my funnel. Then I got a closer look and thought that guy not only put that stand in the perfect spot he uses the same stands I do....then it hit me....I found my missing stand...I did have 7!
All is good now and I'm not actually crazy, just forgetful.
"All is good now and I'm not actually crazy, just forgetful."
I'm in good company I see. ;)
I think it is called CRS/can't remember stuff. My kids call it old timers disease.
Sucks getting old :knothead:
Better than finding your missing stand with in sight of the fence line of the "neighbors" property. I did that once.
Now you can rest your mind about your missing stand. Especially you know now you not as crazy after all.
that's funny I went in one morning to hunt the same stand I had hunted the night before in an area that had the pine rows thinned. I get to row of pines and walk to where my stand was to be only to fined it gone. Mad someone had stolen it I sat on the ground, after good light I look over two rows and see my stolen stand... I was in the wrong row of pines.
I am "old" school. I keep trail markers out on all my stands so this old man can find them again. Daylight or dark, I directionally challenged. Just this past week, I got turned around while setting out a new stand. I did not realize I was going out the wrong way till I ran into the creek, which is the property line.
I'm glad you found your stand. It sounds like it is in a good place.
"Someone" stole my neighbors stand off his property. He went down to the end of our road where the "outlaws" live and offered a $45 reward if they could find his stand. Got it back the same day.
Just remember if you leave stands up through the winter(intentionally or not), if they have cable supports they need to be routinely inspected and changed. There is a post here somewhere of what can happen when moisture gets under the plastic, it will rust away without warning until it fails under load.
Good now come help me find my lost stand lol!!! Did the same thing but I can't find it its what you get when you hick your nutty in the woods far enough away from others
