Up north today at camp and noticed little green acorns all over the driveway under the big White Oaks so I went and checked a couple hunting spots and found the same deal.
Looks like there will be some happy critters, but how do you pick a specific spot with the woods loaded with these tasty treats? In the past I've sat trails through these areas, but deer movement seemed pretty random. Also, I've seen them vacuuming up Maple leaves when a bumper crop was dropping. Maybe set up near a big one among the oaks and hope?
Just brainstorming a little and wanted to ask if anyone has specific tactics that have worked well in the past.
:jumper: :archer2: Good luck to all this season, one more month!

Just look for the tree that have the most fresh droppings by. They will hit certain trees first over others

A few years back, up at ShrewHaven the acorn crop was ridiculous....they were everywhere. One of my favorite spots is on Banana Ridge, which is almost all oaks. I had a real problem there, because the deer had no consistent pattern. I was constantly surrounded by deer, and was always getting scented. I moved about 1/2 mile to a Jackpine thicket that they were bedding in...got between the pines and the oak for more consistent patterns.
Lots of acorns is good....but find the to/from routes and hunt the edges of them.

Acorns are falling in SW Ohio as well.
Walked under a red oak Saturday and it was like walking on marbles.

Acorns, not so for our hunting. My land is between the farm fields and the swamp. When there are a lot of acorns the deer head to the oaks.

Not much for acorns up by our lodge but the crop fields have been turned over to soy beans. The amount of deer in the soy beans was crazy.

Been noticing them dropping here too. Blue jays and squirrels are working them too. I've always wished that they would wait until October to start dropping for the beginning of our bow season. I guess mother nature has a different plan. She must be fattening them up for us so that they are easier to hit. Lol :)

Bumper crop this year, they are all over the place in the Allendale/Hudsonville area. :)

Yep, our deer disappeared off the bean fields a week and a half ago. After inspecting a few nut flats that's where they have gone. Back to the drawing board.

I know of a public spot near camp where a draw comes up onto an oak flat out of some thick pines, thinking I'll check it out this weekend and pick a spot for a ground blind and maybe a tree stand for an opposite wind on the edge where the two merge.
Thanks for the tips, guys!

Same here, sad now that I didn't at least take a picture of the one I had been watching behind my house. Don't have permission to hunt timber he is more than likely spending his time in now.
