Title: Back again.....need insight
Post by: Branpoes on August 31, 2014, 11:00:00 AM
Hey guys, I came on here last year, just starting out with some questions. My bow is a bear grizzly, 50 lbs.  I had been shooting heritage legacy 150s.  For some reason, I had to go with 250 grains up front to get good flight.   After reading many posts by others on their setups, I couldn't figure out why I needed so much weight while others we're doing fine with around 125 or so.
I put the bow down for a few months and recently picked it back up.  To my surprise, I now am able to shoot the same arrows, with much less weight, and achieve great flight.
I have no idea what has changed as I did little to no practice for months.  Only thing I can think of is this.... In the beginning, I over bowed myself which led to bad form, plucking, and so on.  After my break, I started to focus more on a consistent draw and release.  I also noticed I now cant the bow for some reason.
Another note....since I shoot alone,  I really need to be careful about going slow and not shooting too much, too quickly.   My accuracy suffers as I get tired and frustration sets in.
Any thoughts from you veterans? Thanks.

Think u hit it spot on.  It is-was you!   Get some arrows flying and back in the groove and recheck tuning after awhile.  Once u settle in form wise things may need a little tweaking, or may not.

Go to some 3d shoots and meet some trad shooters. Let them see you shoot and see if they coach you a little. Make good shooting buddies that way.

Thanks guys.  I've decided to drop to a 40 lb bow because I'm just not able to shoot quite as much as I would like without fatigue. Thanks again for the input.

I spent yesterday doing the same thing.  It helps to have someone to shoot with to slow me down and I'm much more accurate. Not sure how to "cure" this other than to find someone to shoot with.

At the very least, "you're not alone" in your shooting issues.

How many shots do you get at a deer at a time? Usually one fatigue shouldn't be a problem. I would keep the #50 and hunt with it and use the #40 for target and 3d's.

I can pull 50#, but I shoot and hunt with 39#.  In my experience, with the right arrows and broadheads, there is more than enough horsepower to humanely take a deer.  I need to be a little picky about my shot selection, but I think that that is good policy anyway.  For me, my accuracy comes through focused repetition.  I'd say shoot something you are comfortable with.  Makes it more fun for me and when I've been sneaking around a cold woods for 3 hours and I am wearing thick clothing, I am thankful that I have to pull only 39#.
