Mine is stuck directly to the shelf and riser...nothing in between.

I just ordered and received one from BW this past week for my longbow. It's all one piece but has a small open space between the shelf and riser. I guess its made that way to accommodate the bend in the side plate between the shelf and riser.

Mine didn't put when I replaced it I put a small piece of toothpick under it. I use Velcro for rest and shelf and always add the toothpick for pivot point.  Not required but does make for less contact and I believe it helps if you induce any torque in at the shot.

Never used anything but the rest as supplied. They are the bow that I am most sentimental about, having had amazing adventures in some of the wildest country on God's Earth with a Black Widow longbow in-hand. There I go, being sentimental about them... Love 'em!
