If you use some type of grip on your bow to help you grip it, I would like to see some pictures of it. While shooting here lately, I have been having a problem with my hand slipping a little after a few shots. It doesn't really up my accuracy, but it does mess up my mind! lol.
Any one have any opinion or help for this problem?
Beaver tail, best out there.
it don't look great, but wrap the throat of your bow grip with a few wraps of surgical / bandage tape, or cloth hockey stick tape. Not the whole handle, just the throat.

I too like a beavertail grip for a longbow, but have come to love a checkered grip on my recurve, as there is absolutely no slip and greatly improves my accuracy.
A thunder child I used to own with beavertail:

Schafer will checker any handle for around $140, and turns it around quickly.
Hard to beat the beaver tail grip for consistency. Always bought mine from Abe Penner.
You can see the large cross hatch pattern on the grip on my Blacktail...increased grip without being too sharp...I also had a Schafer longbow that Dave Windauer had checkered...very nice...another thing to consider is simply wearing a thin glove on your bow hand...I find a golf glove to work nicely

Nothing wrong with a good cowhide grip wrap as well...the new Kodiak has drawn quite a bit of flack for using deer hide but I like it...just not as durable as this 54 year old cowhide

Weaver tail is great.
I like beavertail as well...actually I was just thinking this morning about getting my 1976 Kodiak done once it gets skinned...with skins, beavertail and seal skin it will be set up like my ACS CX was...cannot find the pic but while looking I found this one of my Schafer

how does one go about getting a beaver tail grip? That would be beautiful.
Big Jim @ big Jim archery will install them I know.
Give him a call

This was a friend's idea. This is the same material that goes on stair treds to keep them from getting slippery. It is adhesive backed and won't hurt the finish if you decide to take it off.
Just cut to your configuration. Cheap and effective
I wrap my recurves with a rawhide lace...........I posted pictures on another thread like this a few years ago. Cost 3 dollars and if you dont like it just remove it...........
I have used a sure grip but heard of people using a bicycle tire inner tube cut to length.
I am having beavertail on the Featherhorn Abe is building me. Have considered ordering beavertail to install on my current hunting bow.
Rubber bike tube.
Works awesome, no slip. Have it on every longbow I have.
Bike tube for my bow.

grip shape and finger grooves can make your grip more repeatable = better shooting /groups
Hi guys, My experience, Thought I would try a stippled grip on my T-Horn 3 pc. After shooting it for a couple of years now along with some of my other smooth gripped bows. I find that I have trouble with the stippling taking a set in my hand. Therefore it does not settle into my hand consistently and I tend to torque the bow.Checkering on a rifle is there so one can hand on to a firearm with recoil and keep it from taking off. Granted it looks great but I'm starting to wonder if I should cover it or sand it out???? I find that if a grip is fit to your hand properly, it will settle into your palm more consistently if it is somewhat slippery . Duane's grip shape is excellent IMHO and I wish I left the stippling out. Is the Beaver tail smooth enough to settle in your hand??
Just a thought JimG
The most important thing is that the grip fits your hand. Consistent hand placement, equals consistent pressure on the bow, equals consistent arrow grouping.

I wrapped my grip with a tennis racket (rubber wrap) handle material. It was great, no slip, comfy, but it made the handle a little fatter than I really liked. I am kinda picky about the handle of my bows .
That idea using the stair tread stuff sounds interesting, or maybe I will break down and stipple part of the handle.
There is also a guy nearby that does laser work on most any material. We discussed this and he could do it for a fair price and his results are incredible.
Many choices

I might be strange, but instead of putting something on the bow, I prefer to wear a thin leather glove like a golf or batting glove on my grip hand I dont grip very tight when I shoot.
Buck, That's the ticket, to quote Larry of the three stooges.LOL JG :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I have a high grip and hardly hold the bow. It just rests in the web of my bow hand and my index finget keeps it from falling away after the shot.
I found I torqued low-grips badly; and to squeeze is to strangle the shot.

that reiterates how trad archery doesn't necessarily have just one way.
If i grip my bow loose, I can't shoot for crap. I grip it, but don't squeeze it hard.
