I have a dozen ramin shafts that are almost 3/8" and 30 iches long. Spine anywhere from 74-100#. Is there an easy way to atleast get em close to the same spine? Would tapering them afterward lighten the spine? Im hoping for 50-60 spine....is that impossible? Open to any ideas, and thank you in advance.
5/16 ramin spine from 35-55. Hard to get 3/8 ramin down that far. You can leave them a little long and go real heavy up front to get them to shoot from lighter bows.
Like Shaun said, leave them long, you'll be surprised how well they shoot. I don't think spine is as critical at heavy weight, either. I once bareshafted a 108# spine ramin dowel from a 50# bow, and it worked fine. Flew pretty much like a telephone pole, but it worked.
You can weaken the spine somewhat by sanding the center portion of the shaft, but that's a lot of reduction.
Thanks guys, I will try em out. I was more concerned with getting em to similar spines. So far, I have two of em matched at about 80#, I used a drill and sand paper, takes an awful lot of passes though....whew.
