Title: Favorite glue for plastic nocks on wood
Post by: maineac on August 28, 2014, 06:07:00 AM
So what is your favorite glue for attaching plastic nocks to wood arrows.  I will be working with surewood shafts, but share your reasoning and secrets if you want.

Duco with mercury speed nocks

Hot melt for points

works well and has stood the test of time.

Since I cap dip with fletch Laq I use fletch tite to keep compatibility.
I use the brown hot melt. White hot melt does not stand test of time for me.

Voted fletch tite, but will use duco as well.  I like the tiny nozzle on fletch tite.  Duco flows too much glue too fast.  How do you duco guys control that?  What am I missing?

These are what I use, too.  I much prefer the Kimsha over Bohning; cheaper and holds better for me.  Saunders NPV is a fine nock glue, too, and doesn't soften the plastic as much as Duco.

Poll results are not surprising so far.

I have a friend who carefully pinches off two sides of the nozzle with pliers, and then trims the pinched off part so the top will still fit.  However, I've found that you can control the amount that comes out without doing that by being sensitive about how hard you squeeze the tube.  You can actually squeeze some out and then draw some back in by slightly increasing and decreasing the pressure.  I've never had a problem with nocks, but these techniques come in handy when trying to lay down a bead on the quill of a feather.  It's a little more difficult to control out of a newly opened tube, but gets easier with time and practice.

Ditto.

Just squeeze gently.     :dunno:

I pick all of my nock glues based on finish compatibility. If I use ProFin then I use Duco. If I use FletchLac then I use Fletch Tite Platinum.

If you have a Hobby Lobby or model store near you they sell a tip for the plastic glues used on models. It fits model glue cement tips and Duco tips also. Since I found them I have not had a problem. They are packaged by Testors.

I use Duco too on wooden arrows with Mercury Speed Nocks. Had to take several busted nocks off that is glued up with Duco and it holds strong.

Overwhelming results.  I don't have the Kishma hot melt, but I have both types of Bohning.  Thank you all for helping out.
