Title: Yep, Another Broadhead ?
Post by: Spitfire Htr on August 27, 2014, 09:39:00 PM
If you had to choose a 200 grain broadhead for a 44# bow, shooting GT 35/55 @ 30.5", and pulling 29.5 inches, what would you shoot?
Thanks and God Bless

VPA or 190 Simmons Treeshark

Something with two edges that I was able to get and keep sharp.

But, as yet, the chances of me shooting a head that heavy are slim.  I use Douglas fir shafts so the weight is in the shaft.

I was thinking the GK as well. I have a good number of them just because  :)
When in doubt, these heads make anything a super penetrator it seems

I like the 180 Grizzly. For my all around shooting I will probably drop down to 160 grains.

After years of shooting a certain weight it is hard for me to switch to a heavy foc shaft. I have played around with 340 FMJ with about 250 up front, and they fly nice but the trajectory is hard for me to get used to. Just me I guess.

I normally shoot Razorcaps which have weight change ferrules. However, I got half a dozen of the new Grizzly Instinct 3blade in 200 grains. Bear season opens here next week so I will hopefully be able to give an evaluation of how they perform. So far they shoot really well and take a really nice edge.

I am really leaning towards the Simmons 165 grain interceptor/safari heads with a 42 grain adapters. Do y'all think I have enough horsepower to push though deer with these heads if I keep my shots under 20 yards? Thanks

I was shooting a 45@28" and had added 60 grains to my set up for 250 grains, and mine went through both lungs of a whitetail. I'm pulling a little more than 28" though, but I think you should be all right. I shot the Tree Shark and it's wider than the Intercepter.

Simmons Safari is what I shoot from my 47 # centaur. Looks long and lean yet is still 1 9\\16". You will get awesome penetration and big blood trails

Muzzy Stainless Steel Phantom 220 grain.  Remove the bleeder blade to make it a 200 grain 2 blade.  I have had good penetration and durability using the 125 grain as a 2 blade 100 grain.  Main blades resharpen well.
