Sitting in the Charlotte airport waiting on my flight.
Second year hunting with Tony and the gang. Can't wait.
Gonna try and do a hunt along providing the Internet connection cooperates.
Wish us luck
Good luck! What set up are you going with? Bear camp is on my bucket list, without a doubt.
:campfire: Its killing me not to be there with you guys!!
Sean we will miss you.
I'm going to use my psax 53#. GT's and bear broad heads.
Tony and Lynn are top notch!! Good luck and shoot straight.
It's 3:43, everyone's probably on stand about now!!!
Yep we are all out. It's 87 here, not ideal hunting weather but you can't kill them from camp. I have about 20 squirrels going nuts at the bait barrel. Fun to watch till big boy shows up.
Good Luck! :campfire: :coffee:
Good luck! I'm leaving this Sunday for a bear hunt in ME. Should be up a tree this time next Monday.
Can't wait!!
Mark, Ask Tony about the heat waive in 2010....it was HOT!! I hunted the entire week in shorts. Good luck bud!!
Back in the stand. 87 again today but got a good breeze so it's not as bad as yesterday.
Bears were seen, I think 7 from the stories I heard. One was shot but not recovered. We tracked it for 500 yds today and am pretty certain it is alive but educated.
Sean, there is another Sean at the plane crash site tonight.
Uncle jim finally saw a bear.
I had tons of squirrels eating my bait and a coon come in that was the size of a small bear.
Roger saw 4 but is holding out for a monster I guess. ( maybe he wants the free widow lol )
After I climbed in the stand tonight I nocked an arrow then proceeded to drop it to the ground. I've done this twice before. Both times I got shot at game. Sadfully one time I emptied my quiver and would have killed for that arrow back.
Ha Mark, that's my buddy the Professor, Shaun Carter. He was up there in '12. He, like Uncle Jim hadn't seen a bear that year. Good for Uncle Jim!!! Kent's been keeping me posted via texts. Good luck!
I bet it was warm up there today, it was hot down here on the coast. Hope someone smacks a slob!!!
Good luck guys!
Lots more sighting ( not be me though)
One ground blind hunter got a show after legal shooting light when a bear came in and went to battle with the barrel. I'm sure that would have been exciting.
Roger from Black widow bows got one, perfect shot only went 30 yds. Toby's daughter shot a real nice 357# boar (270 cal) she is a happy camper.
It's drizzling now and may the whole day.
Awesome!! A little rain can be great!!! Keep'em coming!
Pictures! I know Toby's daughter can't get posted, but Sean if you get it text me.
I'll shoot Toby a text now Terry
Good luck. Must be a steamer today.
Back at it. Went for a long walk this morning behind camp. Took the camera, bow and predator call. Hoped to see a moose ang get some photos but that didn't happen. There was lots of sign though.
Sat down several times and blew the call to see if I could get a curious bear to show up. No bear but I had a big dark coyote come out about 80 yds away. He started down the road to me then ducked into the woods at 40 yds, cutting down wind. Never saw him again. A flock over ruffed grouse crossed the road 5 yds from me. Oh so tasty but sad fully not in season.
We are all out on stand now. Wish us luck.
Will post pics when I get home can't do it from here.
I love Maine, wish you all a good hunt.
Thursday night now and back in the stand
Last night was slow for most but one bear fell to a recurve. Roger R took one at about 5pm. Pretty good story there but ill let him tell it if he's on here. I heard a limb snap at 7 and thought here we go! But nothing showed up but the same fat coon. Then about 830 tony shows up to get me ( its completely dark) I stand up to pack my stuff and a bear bolts 5 yards behind my tree. Never new he was there. Not sure if he was the limb snapper from earlier or not. Hard to believe they can get that close and not make a sound.
Three of us went out this morning. My bait was hit but nothing came in while I was there. After I climbed down waiting for pick up I had a couple moose come in behind me in the woods. Did not get a look at them but they sure made a lot of racket in there.
Just had a Martin come in a steal a little bait. First one ice ever seen. Looks like a short legged cat.
2.5 hrs of light left, come on mr bear.
Thanks for the updates Mark. I know what stand you're on, I've had a Martin visit me every time that I've hunted it. Tell BOTH Rogers that I said congratulations!
I just got a text from Kent Zocher (Limbhanger)!!! :campfire: :coffee:
:campfire: :coffee:
Looking for an update :coffee: :goldtooth:
One down ! Congrats to Kent
Congrats Kent. He doesn't post much, hopefully he'll see this and tell his story. Kent's a very modest guy and is the real deal when it comes to hunting with a stick and string. Hes completed three Turkey slams with the recurve as well as taken a pile of big game animals including several moose and African game. I met Kent up at Squapan back in 2010 and we immediately hit it off. We've hunted Black bears and Ocseolas together. He was with me when I took my best bear, I just wish I could have been there when he took his first.
NOW, the black bear has been the animal that's caused Kent the most frustration. It was a tough monkey on his back, but he finally connected. Congratulations Brother!!

Woohoo! Well done Kent...
Temp dropped big time. Cold this morning. Bumped one off my bait walking in. It hung around for 20 minutes but would come in close enough.
Congratulations to you all!!
Congrats Kent!
Nice work Kent! Congrats on a beautiful bear.
Way to go Kent ! Big congrats.
Come on Mark, I got my fingers crossed for you!!!!
I got another text from bear camp!! :campfire:
Sounds like they are gettin it done.!
Last day. Could not update yesterday. No cell service for some reason
Good night for a lot of people. Not for me though. Only 4 coon that did not get along at all. They fought for 30-40 solid minutes. Not sure that would keep a bear a away. I'm in the stand now and bait was hit over night. Hope he swings back by to lick the barrel.
Had a father and son pull off a double sitting together ( gun hunting) Two bears two hours apart.
Monk got one from the ground, he has been trying for 3 yrs and finally got it done.
Uncle Jim in in the lead with a nice 256# boar. Made a perfect shot. Funny, looks like he is gonna win a free black widow by killing a bear with a great northern long bow.
Wow, This is a great year!! Congratulations to Monk and Uncle Jim!!! Both put their time in the last few years!!! Com'on Mark, I doing a dance for both you and Professor Shaun!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Sounds like great action at Squapan 2014. Well done & congratulations to all! I'm ready for stories and pics!
Nothing this morning for any of us. Shawn is sitting the plane crash, which I've already laid claim to for next year lol. I'm on a new bait that hasn't been sat yet. Three bears were taken on the three closest sites to here (at least each a mile away)
Fingers crossed !!!!!
Congrats Monk !
Well the week has come to an end. It was a ton of fun. I was one of the unlucky ones this year and only saw one bear run off the bait when I walked in. For the camp we went 9 for 17 which I think is pretty darn good.
Tony, Lynn and all the others worked their butts off for us. Thank you guys very much.
Thanks for taking us along Mark, sorry for pestering you for updates with texts. I had a knot in my stomach wishing I were there.
Congrats to Kent, and hopefully all enjoyed their time in the North Maine woods.
Sitting in Newark airport. First two flights back were with Shaw, Good guy and hope to hunt with him again.
This hunt proves what most of us feel. It's not about the kill. I'm not gonna lie, when others are seeing and shooting someing you've never gotten you have desire to be successful. But when it's all over and you look at the experience it was worth everything. Some don't understand but we do.
Here's to next time !!!!!
Ps Sean I got plane crash !!!!!!
It's gonna cost you a hog hunt!!
We are talking about doing one in the late winter early sting time frame. I'll let you know.
