I'm reaching out looking for some volunteers. I'm going to try and produce some fawn distress calls and would like to hand a few out, for free. All you need to do is hunt with it and let me know how it works.
They won't be anything fancy, probably just some hickory or left over pieces of wood I have laying around.
So if you're interested I'm looking for 5-6 deer hunters who'd like to try it out in the early season. I'd also like to try and spread them out across this great nation.
You can respond here with a "please" and that way we can see how many I get. P.M. your address to me as well. I should have them completed in a week or so and ready to ship out.
I appreciate your help!

No baiting or running dogs out here and I've got a bear tag but I'm not sure I want a boar to think I'm breakfast.

Please, if you need another from South MS.
Plese would really put this to the test have a fawn decoy to go with it for the yotes to.
any thing for research... please..
Both places I hunt have fawns close by. One place is thickly wooded with undergrowth. I'll have the Faith bow in Sept. Maybe with Faith and this call I can provide positive results.
Please, if not too late, consider sending one to NC.
Thanks.
I lost my favorite one, had it for 25+ years . I will buy one from you.
They are great for coyotes. You can do all kinds of sounds besides fawn bleats with a good one.
please and thank you
I really am overwhelmed by the willingness of everybody to try an experiment. I know how precious my hunting time is. I'm always hesitant to try something new as it might mess up an opportunity.
I had more than enough volunteers to choose from. It really made it difficult to choose. But I think I was able to get a good spread from NE, SE, Mid-states, western states and west coast.
Our testers are below:
Forester45 - PA
Mooshkat - WI
Cullen G - OK
Duker - NC
Monterey - CO
Tom L - TN
Blackhawk - WA
Thumper Dunker - CA
After the above are done hunting with the calls I asked that they report back to us with their results. The good, the bad and hopefully bloody.
Good luck to all. I look forward to reading about the results.

I guess I will have to try and make my own . Are you going to make the little barrel shaped one's I talked about and if so what are you using for reed material ? Thank You Rick
Hey J make sure you show us all a pic and keep us posted on how they work.
Biggamefish, I will be sure to do that! I did ask those that were chosen to reply after they hunt with them to see how it worked. I'll be sure to post some pics, maybe a build along... that could be fun.
RIng, I'm using some reeds I found through my supplier, HUT Products. I was messing with one of their reed sets I had already, adjusting it, and found a tone similiar to the call my son has from Quaker Boy Game calls.

Thanks I just ordered some reed material .

Well, I haven't been very good at getting pictures as I went. It was fairly humid today and the wood just stuck to everything. So the camera stayed nice and clean in the house. I should be able to get a picture though of where I'm at as of now. I have turned the first half of all the calls.
I didn't choose any fancy shape, sometimes simple is better. These little pieces take a little extra time as you need to get the fit just right. Otherwise the call doesn't stay together. And that's just unacceptable!
The second part of the call should go quicker as I'm just turning the wood down to shape. The reeds are en route to my house and I should have them tomorrow or Monday. Hope to get the call in the mail early next week for those whose seasons start sooner than mine, lucky duckies.
Taking my daughter out for ice cream. Will post a picture or two later this evening.

Jeremy i cant wait to get the call in my hands. I will keep everyone updated on how it goes.
Mmmm, nothin' like some ice cream on a muggy Friday afternoon. Now that my belly is full here's a pic or two:

Well, on Monday I'll get after the large square bottoms and make 'em round. I really hope the sound produced brings in a wary doe or two for the early season deer hunters. And for those looking for bears, you're nuts to call in a bear thinking it's gonna get a tasty meal. But hey, good luck!

Well I can see it now, "Deer Call Dynasty" staring J. Holden, LOL
Good luck with your adventure and as others have said, Keep us posted.
I don't know about that Jon. This hobby makes just enough to pay for itself and a little extra for some permits  I will be sure to keep you all up to speed.

Well, I feel like a moroon. I thought I took a picture of the finished calls. But, as my name calling eludes to, I didn't have the card in the camera. The picture of all the calls isn't available! :banghead: All the calls are at the P.O. as of an hour ago.
I really like the finished product both in quality and sound. I guess I'll leave it up to those trying the calls to post some pictures if they're able. The majority of the calls should be arriving on Thursday, one is supposed to be arriving on Wednesday. The 9th is going to Canada, so, who knows!
In the mean time I do have a picture of 3 that I turned to try out around here in Il. I guess they'll have to do.
