So we bought this fancy high efficiency (H/E) washing machine a while ago. Its probably a scam, but they say you have to use special H/E laundry detergent. I am sure any will be fine, but I am not sure I want to chance it and my wife will not allow anything else in there.
My question is; for those that have a H/E machine, what detergent do you use for your hunting clothes? I know I will smell like a human no matter what, but I guess I don't want to smell like a human walking through a spring meadow.
Jhawk...I use the same detergent as I did before. Set it for a double rinse. And minimum spin cycle cause when they do a high speed spin they will put wrinkles in that won't come out un less you put them in the dryer.
I use "He" dye and perfume free detergent, whatever brand is on sale. For everything, not just hunting clothes. I hate perfume.
Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse both have a couple different brands for use in the H.E. washing machines. Just look for the little H.E. tag on the bottle...Wildlife Research and Dead Downwind are a couple.
I don't have a HE cloths washed but I only use baking soda to wash my hunting cloths.
I have scent away detergent. I think it even states it can be used in HE washer... one thing I noticed is make sure to clean out your detergent dispenser well, I noticed behind the despensing tray it collects a lot of detergent through time... I clean it out, then run a couple empty loads on hot/hot with baking soda before washing my hunting clothes.
We use Tide Free (scent free) for our everyday clothes, and I use Sport Wash for my hunting clothes.
Bisch
+1 for dead downwind
20 mule borax
Sport wash
You need to be careful with some of the mainstream detergents. While they may be scent free, they may still contain UV brighteners. I've used most of the stuff available for hunting clothes detergent, but am thinking about taking the baking soda route.
HE sportwash. if i wash them at all.
I'll add dry 'em on a clothes line no matter what detergent you use.

Hunter Specialties Scent-A-Way.
My wife makes our own detergent, we have a HE machine too. the only difference between HE and normal detergent is the the HE suds less, that's it!!!
For hunting i just wash in borax and due a double rinse cycle. My dad use to wash his hunting clothes in just unscented detergent then put them in a black trash bag with a few branches from a cedar and leave them for 2 weeks.
ECOS free and clear for things like shirts and t-shirts. (Non-scented and not a lot of extra junk in it.) I wear mostly wool and seldom wash it, but when I do, I use Woolite and hand wash.
I just wash my loin cloth in the crick with sand and moss ... :bigsmyl:
Use whatever you want. From what I've seen HE means politically correct, but doesn't do as good a job as your previous NHE model....really should have just called them ME (more expensive)!
Put your big boy pants on and tell your wife how it's done! Yeah, I'm just kidding!

HE means they use they use less water and energy. Which makes them less effective at cleaning.
Any scent free will work in a HE machine. HE machines require less soap and if you are a heavy handed, more is better when it comes to soap in a HE machine it may not be able to rise all residue out. Use any soap you want just use the recommended amount or actually a little less than recommended amount.
I use Code Blue personally but Dead Down Wind and HS is good also.
Dry on low without a scented dryer sheet or hang outside to dry. Put in Totes or HS scent free bags and good to go!
FYI, same goes for HE dish washers, less is more.
Pretty much same as Bisch.. Tide no dye or perfume for everyday use clothes and UV free "sport wash" for all hunting cloths.
Dead Down Wind!
- Will actually help prevent or remove accumulated biofilm that plagues a lot of the he front load washers. It's also the only one that ACTUALLY PUTS odor eliminating ingredients in the detergent. Check the labels.
