Title: StJudes auction 2004 - Please read
Post by: fletcharrows on August 19, 2014, 01:06:00 AM
I have been absent from here for quite awhile. In 2004 I bid on and won a beautiful baby Beagle. I named her Dutchess. She stayed at my side while cancer tried to kill me. In fact, her favorite place was my lap. Today her highness, the Duchess of Beagle passed into memory. My face was the last thing she saw and my voice was the last she heard. Thank you all for allowing me to have her. Michael Fletcher

Glad to hear you made it through the cancer. I also beat it this year. A dog is a great companion. You were blessed with a good friend to help you through.

The right dog is a miracle, steals your heart, gives you hope and faith, makes you smile and keeps you going.  Unfortunately those little miracles live far too short a life.

Sorry for your loss

I often wonder if dogs live shorter lives because they pour out 100% of their love unreservedly day in and day out...and when used up, are called 'home'.

I echo other's sentiments of gratitude for your healing from the Big C.  I'm glad you've had all these years to share with Her Highness.

It would appear that you enriched her life as she did yours!

Peace, brother

It is truly a gift from God to have such a wonderful pet and friend. She went out in the best way possible, knowing that she was loved.

Most of us who have had pets have had at least one that we were close to such as your Duchess, so we really understand your feelings at this time. Her life and her continuing memory will continue to bless your life forever. So sorry for your loss.

After losing our 15 year old beagle last year, we waited a short time and got another one, which was the best decision we ever made. There is something about beagles that make them some of the best companions ever. If you are anything like us, you will be blessed to get another pup. So sorry for your loss.

God bless you both.   I have three angels, my big guy Lloyd, 6.5 year old pit/Rott/spaniel mix.  Points and retrieves Bird's and is my constant companion.  Recently blessed, thx to my loving wife w/ twin toy poodle pups.  Gotta say at first I considered myself a big dog guy, but wow, these little ones leave big marks on your heart!

Dicey at first but all three getting along famously now.     :clapper:

I feel for you, loss of a dog is only understood by other dog lovers    :biglaugh:

10 years with a Beagle are special!

Our last dog is buried 15 feet from the house under the Sycamore tree. My wife and I don't have the heart to have another.  He was 15 when he died in February, 2009.

My prayers go out to you as it is hard to replace the love of a good dog. But it is good to hear you are still here flinging arrows.

Goes to show that taking part in the auction, and like parts of life, does good that multiplies and comes back to you many times over the years.  Sorry to know your companion has gone home, but glad to know that you had her.

Here is the pup that we got after our 15 year old died. He is an absolute joy to have in the family. A new pup can really help you in your loss.

After numerous other dogs, I have to say that beagles are my favorites; so much personality, so intelligent, so loyal. Again, very sorry for your loss.

That is really special....Wow, its still getting to me.

I moved a copy of this thread to the archives under 'Classics'.

Looks like we have another St Jude Mascot to Honor in the Auction next year.

Sorry for your loss, but thankful for the memories she gave you.  Don't ever lose sight of those.

Take care,

Terry

First off congratulations for winning your battle with the big C.
I've had a beagle now for 3 yrs. His name is Fletcher. I'm listening to him  yodel and bay as he plays with his German shorthair sister ZuZu outside . I know what a comfort and just what a great companion they  are he sleeps with us every night. Drives the neighbors nuts withs his vast vocabulary. But we love him. I wish they could live as long as us.
My heart goes out to you for your loss.
Tim

I feel for ya. That is tough to go through and have such a friend. It is said a man will get that one dog in a lifetime. Sounds like you had yours. It's a blessing. And some dont understand how someone can love and be sooo close to a beloved dog. I do understand. It's very difficult. My thoughts are with you. Dogs are special.
