Title: Who is a Kimsha fan........?
Post by: ron w on August 19, 2014, 01:43:00 PM
I had one a while back and liked it. It was a bit heavy at my draw and 60 or 62" long. I just picked one up on the classifieds that is more in line with my specs......43.5# @ 29"--66" long. Has a slight locator grip with black glass back and belly. Really looking forward to shooting it. Any other Kimsha fans out there??

I had one of Tom's hill style bows that shot great, one of the few bows I've sold that I wish I had back.  I think you will be pleased.

I am a fan. One thing I learned with working with Tom is to me very understated and you have to really listen to get to the finer parts of his bow building. For me I have a 29" longbow draw and I always shot 66 or 68 " bows. On this last bow I ordered he simply said I would think a 64" would be better. It is truly one of the best fits at my draw and the cast is a whole lot better. Tom is a long studied Doctor of the longbow. I think he has been shooting them for over 50 years and he truly loves longbows so he has to have learned something. I knows his bows are as smooth and quiet as any and better than some. This last one I got is his new Traditional model with a straight limb and he says very little string follow. I shot it over a chrony and with a 600gr. arrow at 29" draw and 53#s. It shot 163 to 165 fps. I have recurves at the same weight that shoot the same arrow from 160 to 165. Many of my other longbows shoot the same arrow at 150 to 158. So I think Toms bows are pretty good at standing on their own. Hope you enjoy the bow when you get it.

I'm a fan.  I own two, a 15 yo 50's style Chesapeake recurve and my baby, a bocote and wenge Mattawoman II r/d longbow that strings to a perfect "D".

That longbow has accounted for my largest whitetail, numerous dead birds, groundhogs, etc.  Literally the most accurate point and shoot bow I've ever had in my hands.  Over a session, I will shoot a recurve better.....but to just grab a bow to point and shoot....Mattawoman II all day long.

I've wondered why Tom's longbows aren't more popular than they are.  I've seen enough of them to know Tom makes one of the best......and he's such a neat guy.

I had a talk with Tom at a shoot recently, he was showing me a few dual shelf bows he was messing with, your right, neat guy to talk to.

One thing about Tom's bows is that grips seem to vary a lot.  He'll tell you that obviously not everyone likes the same thing.  When I visited his shop, it was apparent that everything is truly custom.  There could be two bows, almost identical, and one would fit great and the other I couldn't stand.  It's part of being a true custom bower.  I'm not even sure if he has any "standard".  It's either locator or not, big or small, but if you want it a certain way, he'll happily do it.

I met Tom once at the Paradise hunting club here in south Ga. He and Fred Asbel were there hunting. I hunt right down river a bit from it and was there as a guest. He had a bunch of his bows there and they were very nice. He was a very nice fella and a good shot.RC

Ron,

I think the Mattawoman II is a smooth-drawing, fine-shooting bow.  Hope you enjoy it!

I'm a TP(Tom Parsons @ Kimsha)fan. Have owned and shot his bows for several years and feel they are one of the best buys out there. They may be the quietest bow I've ever shot too. He and I have shot a lot of arrow together and shared a lot of campfiress. You'd best be shooting your best if you challenge ole' TP. There's not a better fella to ride the river with....GFA

I've bought strings and arrows from him I sure wouldn't mind getting one of his bows. Might have to ask Santa Claus this year

Ron - your going to have to put an addition on the house just to store all the bows that you own. Is this what I can look forward to when I retire in 11 months?

Who is a Kimsha fan?........ME!! I just got my new to me Mattawoman II in the mail today. Ran a few arrows threw her and I'm a happy camper. 66" 43.5# @ 29", just a plain Jane brown glass and camo action wood riser, 6 Bamboo lams and 1 of carbon. Smooth and quick and almost silent, I really like it!!

I have one of Toms bows for sale on my used bow list. It is in as new condition and the workman ship  is very nice. Should make someone a great bow.
