I see a Toelke Lynx in my very near future and was wondering what limbs, recurve or longbow, should I get. ( I know, ideally one of each but can't right now). Those of you that own both which do you find yourself shooting most of the time?
I have a longbow with a set of limbs making the bow 60" and second set for 66" . My Lynx is the quietest bow I own. Can't go wrong.
I don't know if this will help you or not, but I gave up on buying two sets of limbs for one bow years ago. I would always use one and the other would stay in the closet. I don't know how many people you will find who have both longbow and recurve limbs for their lynx. However, Dan is primarily known for his longbows. I have two lynx's, both longbows. The one I primarily use is 66", and I have another one 5# heavier that is 64". I bought the 64" one just because it was there at a good price and because I liked the 66" one so much. There is quite a variation in his risers and handle grips. Be sure you understand this, including talking with Dan, before you order one.

I've tried several variations of each, though I've not tried his 60" recurve limbs. Without a doubt I'd go longbow. His 58" recurve limbs didn't agree with my 29"ish draw length despite the 58" chinook working perfectly. The risers are made to each individual's hand tracing usually so there is some variant, though I've had 3 and all felt good despite dramatic size differences. Anything up to a 29" draw I'd go 62" longbow, anything over go 64". Dan would probably recommend shorter then me as he seems to recommended the shortest length you can get away with leaning toward performance. I lean toward shoot ability and have never regretted going longer.
Both limbs are good performers. I favor the longbow limbs for their quietness. Versus a Whip they seem to have a little less r/d to them, so ever so slightly less speed IMHO but they string up into a pretty D shape whereas the Whip shows a little reflex in the limbs at brace. The recurve limbs are pretty quick and hard hitting, very smooth. To me middle of the road on noise. Go with your gut, in cases like this if you can't afford or don't need a 2nd set of limbs decide if you're a 'longbow' or 'recurve' guy. The risers have great mass weight. True about the custom grip. Toelke is always a good decision either way.

What I meant was that when I bought the 64" bow used, it came with a riser that was much skinnier than the riser on my 66" bow. I couldn't get used to it, so I called Dan and he had me send in both risers and he made me one to match the one I liked. In two weeks! And gave me something for the riser I didn't like! Needless to say, I was very happy with his service.
I only have experience with the two risers, but I know I wouldn't have been as happy with the first bow if it had come with the second riser. He does ask people to send him a hand tracing with bow orders, and he evidently knows how to fit his bows to your hand.

When Dan builds a bow he asks for a tracing of your hand and sizes the grip to fit. One grip is likely to be different from another.

I draw 29 and had the 58" recurve limbs. I didn't like them. I traded them in for another set of LB limbs. Its my go to bow.
I think I'm going to go with the longbow limbs as well.
