What are the pro's and con's of the gloss finish on Howard Hill Archery bows by Ekin.
-
you already asked the same question on the hh bug thread.
it has nothing to do with the bow brand or type. it's pure aesthetics ... though a glossy bow reflection can be a hunting deal breaker.
-
Gloss will bring out the wood, but reflective so for hunting a potential stalk/movement giveaway. That's about all there is to say. A light coat of wax left on unbuffed will take care of this for a hunt.

To my eye, gloss finishes show "handling" marks more. Any bow will get scratches from normal day to day use, but I don't think they are as noticeable on a matte finish. YMMV

I chose satin for my halfbreed and like the finish.

thanks for the input

I like the gloss finish simply because it looks nice. I have not knowingly been busted by the high gloss. Movement is what has done me in most often, whatever the finish.

Depends on what I want the bow for.I had a Big Five, ebony riser and black glass that looked pretty sweet in a high gloss.Something about black in high gloss,I just like the looks!I have my Half Breed in a satin finish, look great too!

I've killed turkeys and deer from the ground and tree stands with high gloss finished Hill style bows, Like Rob said has nothing to do with style of bow.

Pro: It looks great.
Con: It looks too good to take in the woods....

Glossy finish is typically harder. You can always tone it down with wax...
