They work great. Just be sure to give them at least 2 to 3 full turns once in. First night I had mine I told my buddies as we were heading out for the evening hunt "this things going to get used tonight so let's hope someone gets a deer..."

I have one brand new I'm just too nervous to use it..... I forget but do you pull the bowel out then tie it with string then cut around the based of the bowel and pull it back through to the inside of the cavity?

I carry one in my pack. I haven't used it yet, but I watched a friend of mine use his on a buck and it worked really well. They also make a larger one for moose/elk.
Dave.

I saw a guy use one last year. Worked really well , I promptly went out and bought one. I did not fill my last tag after that purchase .........I reckon the deer were frightened.   :)

I just carry a film can with cotton string in it.

In it's early days I thought it was just some gimmick designed to separate hunters from their money. That was before I hunted a ranch in Texas where every guide carried one.

I watched closely while several deer were dressed and the tool used on each one. Not a gimmick for sure and it simplifies a sometimes awkward task.

Use it in good health...and a often!

I got one as a gag gift a few years ago.

After using it a few times,  the first due to ribbing by the guy who gave it to me,  I have come to the conclusion that,  while not necessary,  it works.

You can get by wo one, but I got mine on clearance, so all my buddies got one in their stocking.

Definitely worth the money. Not essential but saves time and makes clean work of a dirty job.

Work great.  Not something I pack with me, but when hunting close to home, I have used them many times.

I don't tie it off.  I pull maybe 12" out and cut it in a section where I don't think any poop will spill out.

I've never used one, and I'm not sure about all this tying off stuff. Ive heard on more than one occasion that they do as advertised.  I just carry an extra knife with a long, thin blade, similar to, but thicker than a fillet knife. It works great for cutting around the anus, up through the pelvic bone, and really doesn't take much time to do. I haven't split a pelvic bone since I started carrying it! It works great for getting up and cutting the esophogus as well. Plus I have an extra sharp blade if my primary field dresser gets dull. Ymmv.

I hear they work great, but I've not used one. Truth is, I've never had any issues using the traditional method. My friend carries one and walks in front of me when trailing deer...

I wonder if anyone will ever make one in custom wood with hand-checkering?
