Title: Near miss.

I was in my back yard today getting ready to mow my grass, 3 of my 4 kids were jumping in our trampoline when a arrow lands 5' away from them... I walked over and picked it up and the kid a few house over came to my back yard asking for it back.... Needless to say it did work out like he planned, one of my kids could have been killed... At the end of our conversation I informed him and his father that I shoot my bow in the back yard all the time, how even I have a 48"x48" target butt and a plywood back stop behind that and I suggest they did similar or go to the range.

Anyone have a similar situation?

Invite them over to shoot with you....And mentor them.

The sad part is its not just kids doing it. Common sense seems to be lacking in a lot of people.

I had to stop letting my grandchildren shoot in my backyard for that reason. No matter how much I told them to keep the shots low, and I was always standing right behind them, one would go zinging over the fence. Of course, I never shoot when the neighbors are in their backyard, but it should still never happen.  I think kids just can't control it at a young age, and I just don't have enough hair left, so I take them to the range instead, even though it means some extra driving.

Was shooting a 3D event some years back. Standing at the stake ready to shoot and an arrow wizzes in and sticks in the ground just 5 feet in front of me. If I had been shooting the next stake up, I would have taken that one in the chest. The club quickly moved that target on the other side of the ridge.

Well I guess it would be a good opportunity to help/ mentor them. Guess I will mention it next time I see him. They do have a sheet of plywood behind a cheap walmart foam block now

Sounds more like dad needs the mentoring of the children of the dangers of there actions!!!!

No question that flying arrows are dangerous.

That's why a lot of municipalities prohibit shooting in town.

Good judgement is paramount in areas where it is legal.

 I'm lucky to be able to live and shoot in the country.

Despite two 3' x 3'targets, backed up by plywood and cow mats, the empty field behind the target area accumulates a lot of arrows it seems.

I should add, those arrows are not always from the grandkids....
