Title: Ever had a fast flight string break?
Post by: Etter on August 06, 2014, 03:31:00 PM
Ive seen a lot of threads lately about strings breaking and was wondering if anyone ever had a ff break. I figured with their superior strength, they would be less susceptible to it.

They may be strong but they ain't broadhead proof! One nick and they fly apart.

Broke a ff string last year, broke at 3/4 draw on my Grizzly.
Only string I've ever had break in 39 years.
Dont know why it broke, weird thing.

Well yes I have.  Brass nock points, broadheads, rough nock grooves and general wear and tear.

They will all break so you always need at least one shot in replacement string in your pack at all times.

Yes. Right at the tied on nock point. Miraculous, but it broke while hanging on the wall, not when I was shooting it earlier that day.

I wonder if all the string breaks you speak of are due to the skinny 8-10 strand strings a lot of people are using ?

Had three break at the nocking point, two while shooting, one while bow was laying on the bed of a truck.

Back when I broke a lot of B-50 strings I was shooting the lightest, fastest arrows I could shoot out of my bow. Dan Quillian told me I was dry firing my bow with the light arrows which was causing the strings to break. Turns out he was right, bumped my arrows up 100 gr and never broke another string.

I shoot arrows in the 525-650gr weight range now and suspect this is why I never break FF strings. My strings are 12 strands of DF-97 with 4 strands of B-50 in the padded loops.

Any of you other guys who break strings shoot heavy arrows?
